Everyone loves a good Netflix binge, especially during those long lazy weekends. Organise a ‘Netflix and chill’ with these hot series!

The Witcher

Henry Cavill plays the titular hero in this video game adaptation that puts other video game adaptations to shame. One of the newest Netflix original shows, “the Witcher” has single-handedly changed the reputation of video game adaptations in general. After only one season, people are aching for more, and binge-watching the entire first season seems like a no-brainer for subscribers to the service. This is a dark fantasy that is like an R-rated Lord of the Rings, complete with blood, gore, and just a little bit of supernatural sex.

Stranger Things

Everyone knows about “Stranger Things” but that doesn’t mean that it’s not worth a mention on this list. If you haven’t seen it yet, this nostalgic throwback to both Stephen King novels and the Amblin Entertainment productions of the 80s such as “ET: the Extra-Terrestrial” is an awesome and somewhat twisted horror odyssey that will hook you in with the very first opening credits sequence. There are three seasons now available for streaming and plenty more to come down the line. Hop on the hype train and start binging this awesome show.

Bojack Horseman

It’s coming to a close very soon with its final 8 episodes just around the corner so now is the perfect time to catch up on this radical and bizarre animated satire on the entertainment industry at large. Featuring the voice of Will Arnett as the titular anti-hero who you can’t help but root for, this is one of the most purely funny shows available on the streaming service and you would be doing yourself a disservice to ignore it.

Black Mirror

What originally started as a strange and surreal commentary on our increasingly entangled and problematic relationship with technology that aired on the BBC has now become a full-blown global sensation thanks to Netflix. This is a dark and powerful sci-fi anthology series that introduces a new and compelling story in each episode. If you are into shows that make you think and reflect on both the world and your own life, this is the show for you.

GLOW

“GLOW” is a feel-good dramedy based on the real-life story of GLOW, or the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. If you want to get sucked into a hilarious and heartfelt show with an ensemble of likable characters then this is one you definitely shouldn’t sleep on. With three seasons currently available for streaming and more on the way, “GLOW” is a sensational program that brings some tough and welcome femininity to the Netflix lineup.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

If you grew up watching “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” then you should absolutely be watching this dark and gritty “reboot” on Netflix, based off the comic book adaptation of the same name. Whether you’re a fan of the original show or the comic book, this is a strange and dark coming-of-age story that you shouldn’t miss out on. Even people who are not familiar with Sabrina will find something to enjoy in this strange teen horror drama. Two seasons are available now with a third on the way.

Big Mouth

Here’s another Netflix original animated comedy, this one about the trials and tribulations of puberty. The conceit is that puberty is personified by “imaginary friend”-style monsters that talk to the cast of animated kids and embody all their mixed-up pubescent feelings. Fans of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney will find a lot to enjoy in the writing and voice-over work of this oft-overlooked and fairly clever cartoon.

The Umbrella Academy

This is another one that gets unfairly slept on in the eyes of the public. Based on the comic book series of the same name from the lead singer of the band My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way, “the Umbrella Academy” is a dark and fantastical tale of a group of teens with extra-ordinary superpowers… think a kind of dark and gothic X-Men by way of Tim Burton. Featuring an all-star cast led by Ellen Page (who ironically played Kitty Pryde in the X-Men movies), this is one dark epic that every subscriber should be giving a binge. There is currently only one season but another one is in production.

Schitt’s Creek

This one is somewhat of a sleeper hit for Netflix and is another one that a lot of people might not be aware of. While not a Netflix original, this show has found success and made a name for itself primarily on the streaming platform and is one the Netflix subscribers should definitely check out if they aren’t into quirky and unique comedies. With an incredible cast led by the great Eugene Levy (also co-creator), Catherine O’Hara, and Chris Elliott, this award-winning Canadian comedy about a dysfunctional family is a riotous good time for those who like their humor dry and dark. While most may be most familiar with Eugene Levy as the dad from the “American Pie” series, he is a comedy legend up there with the best and this show displays him in all his glory. Catherine O’Hara, Chris Elliott, and the rest of the cast only add to the fun and the ensemble is so perfect you could sit there and watch them banter with no plot and still be satisfied when the credits roll.
