University staff and lecturers in the UK will be going on strike again this month. The strikes, organised by the University and College Union (UCU) are set to take place on different dates between Monday the 14th of February to the 2nd of March 2022. You can see the full breakdown of dates here.
Who is affected?
The upcoming strike is set to affect university students at 68 UK universities- that’s more than one million students. Some of the students that will be affected include those at Leeds University, City University of London, Durham University, Kings College London and the University of Nottingham.

Why are university staff striking?
There are two main reasons behind the upcoming strikes. These are:
-A demand for pension cuts to be reversed: University UK had previously announced that it would be reforming the university superannuation scheme. This would affect university staff’s retirement plans.
-Pay increase: The UCU is calling for a £2500 pay increase for all staff in the UK.
