A guide to Pride events 2021 for students

June is Pride month, which means we all get together and celebrate those around us who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. This culminates in a series of fun, exciting and inclusive events across the country. To help you decide which ones to go to, we’ve made a guide to Pride events 2021 in the UK.

London

London Pride – 11th September 2021 

Whilst usually in the middle of summer, the London Pride parade will take place on the 11th September this year. There will be a parade route through central London celebrating visibility, unity and equality.

Manchester

Manchester Pride28th August 2021 

There is more than just a parade planned in Manchester, but the parade is the biggest event going on. Taking place at the end of August, the parade is celebrating everything LGBTQ+ with the theme Garden of Freedom.

Manchester Pride Live28th and 19th August 2021

Fancy a gig, but make it LGBTQ+? Manchester Pride Live is a gig scheduled alongside the parade. So far it is set to have Sigala, Katy B, Zara Larsson and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

4 Day Pride Party – 27th – 30th August 2021 

Over in Manchester’s famous ‘Gay Village’ there will be a series of celebratory events, from themed drinks to club nights. Get involved!

Superbia Weekend – 28th and 29th August 2021 

For anyone looking for an alcohol-free space, Superbia Weekend is a space for LGBTQ+ people to celebrate in an alternative way to the parties, pride parades and club nights.

Candlelit Vigil – 30th August 2021 

The MCR Candelit Vigil is the nicest way to close the four days of pride. Based in Sackville Gardens, the home of Alan Turing, the community take a minute to remember those lost to HIV or those who are suffering, prosecuted and presenting an opportunity to stand together as a community.

Brighton

Whilst the Brighton Pride Parade has been cancelled due to COVID concerns, other events are available in the city.

Pride Beach Party – 7th August 2021 

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pride in Brighton and Hove, beloved nightclub Shooshh is hosting a Pride beach party. There will be 3 rooms of music, bookable VIP booths and tables, and plenty of drinks!

Bougie Drag Bottomless Brunch Pride Edition – 8th August 2021

With some of the most famed queens from across the country, visit Pryzm and enjoy a bottomless brunch accompanied by lip-syncing, killer looks and quick wit.

Birmingham

Smithfield Live25th September 2021 

Birmingham Pride is hosting a new element of their celebrations this year – Smithfield Live. It will host their biggest ever main stage, a cabaret stage, dance arena and a funfair, street food, seating, and way more. The site will accommodate 20,000 people.

Street Party – 25th – 26th September 2021 

Around Hurst Street, Bromsgrove Street and the surrounding area, there will be a Birmingham Pride ‘Street Party’. This will include all your favourite LGBTQ+ bars and clubs, including Equator, The Fox, The Loft, Missing Bar, Nightingale Club and Sidewalk Bar. Each bar or club will have Pride events like cabaret, live entertainment, and a bustling atmosphere.

Pride Parade – 25th September 2021 

Arguably one of the most important aspects of the weekend, enjoyed by around 75,000 spectators as it journeys through the city. The event starts at Victoria Square in the city centre at

Southampton

Pride Parade – 28th August 2021

Starting at 2pm, the parade works its way through the city to show everyone the city’s celebrations.

Medway 

Pride in Medway starts with a parade in Gravesham on 14th August 2021, followed by 8 days of celebration and events and ending with a parade in Medway on the 21st August 2021.

Bristol

Bristol Pride Parade – 10th July 2021 

The parade is taking place on the 10th of July and working through the city. Following a record number of participants in 2019, the organisers are expecting a big blow-out for this year’s festival!

Pride Day – 10th July 2021 

Held in Castle Park with the hope of bringing the community together, this event will have a food market, family and youth areas, roaming live performances and an atmosphere we’ve all missed.

Pride Night – 10th July 2021 

There’s a whole range of events happening in the evening of pride day. Whether you want to go to the official Bristol Pride After-PArty at the O2 Academy from 10pm – 4am; a drag, burlesque and live music event at Punka; a DnB, techno and house night with B, Please; or go all out for Werk It. There’s something for everyone.

Leicester

The Leicester Pride celebrations have not released a whole lot of information yet, but we do know it will be on Saturday 4th September at Victoria Park.
