Living or visiting Bristol soon? Then you’re probably looking for things to do in Bristol this August! We’re here to help with ideas of events and places to go this summer in the city. If none of these are your kind of thing, why not try these fun free things to do instead.

1. Fiesta Fortnight by Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta are treating the city to two whole weeks of ballooning events. Expect to see classic hot air balloons, special characters and exciting new shapes taking off across the city, from locations chosen by the locals!

2. Vanguard – Bristol Street Art: The Evolution of a Global Movement 

Date: 26th June – 31st October

Bristol has played an instrumental role in the growth of British street art, and at this exciting exhibition at M Shed, you can find rare works which demonstrate this growth from Bristolian, British and Irish artists! Tickets are available, and walk-ins will also be accepted.

3. Tales of The Garden 

Date: 28th May – 12th September

Adventure through the Longleat grounds and learn about the fascinating history of the area. See stunning sculptures created by UK-based artists who have used their skilful teams, a range of materials and talent to bring the histories to life. Usual day passes cover this event.

4. Comedy & Magic Theatre Shows 

Date: Every Thursday

This secret theatre hosts regular comedy, close-up magic, burlesque and 1920’s themed performances regularly, but their Thursday shows are one of their most esteemed events. Tickets are available online for either the 7pm or 9pm show each week.

5. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast 

Date: 25th August – 18th September

Watch your favourite Disney musical unfurl in front of you, live on stage. Set in the beautiful Bristol Hippodrome, this performance is suited to any age and any group, and will be one to remember. Tickets are available on the website for £20 upwards.

6. Summer Sounds at Avon Valley 

Date: Weekends

Fancy watching some live music? Why not head over to the Summer Sounds one weekend this month? With great live tribute bands, food and drink, plus a great atmosphere – it really is the best way to spend a summer weekend with your friends and family.

7. Bristol City v Swansea City

8. Mansion Garden Party

Date: 22nd August

Get your fancy frocks and socks on for a glamorous garden party with picnics and lots and lots of dancing! Held by Swing Dance Bristol, this event is being held in the gorgeous Kings Weston House to celebrate being able to meet up again.

9. Godney Grotto and Garden Summer Open Days

Date: 22nd August

Goldney Garden is opening for the day to allow the public to explore its delightful fauna. You can explore the ornamental garden, orangery, canal, tower, rotunda and bastion, and even the grotto.

10. Bristol Shakespeare Festival 

Date: August

Where: Various locations

Take a trip down classics lane and explore the plays and works of Shakespeare. This year, the festival has been moved from June to August, so you can go and enjoy the plays and other activities happening up and down the city. Check out the individual events here!
