There is no need to venture worldwide just to have a look at animals when you can do so right here in Leeds. From cute rabbits, woolly sheep, tall alpacas and even Dory and Nemo, you can find all the wildlife right here in the city. Here are some of the areas in Leeds where you can see animals.

Tropical World

One of the most popular wildlife attractions in the UK is Tropical World. Travel through the tropical rainforests to see a variety of birds, fish (including Nemo), and butterflies. After that, you can immerse yourself in the darkness, where you’ll encounter spine-tingling insects and night animals like bats, snakes, and badgers. And if that wasn’t enough, you can take a trip to the Australian deserts where you can say hello to the meerkats!

Meanwood Valley Farm

Meanwood Valley Farm is open 365 days a year and is home to many animals such as goats, alpacas and rabbits. There is no need to pre-book your visit and only costs £2.50 for the whole day. To feed the animals, go to the farm shop and buy some food and off you go! Be careful though, they are a feisty bunch!

Home Farm, Temple Newsam

Temple Newsam is one of Europe’s largest Rare Breeds Farm. The ‘Amazing Animals’ event includes over 400 poultry goats, pigs and sheep. There are a variety of events to also get involved in such as the famous Birds of Prey display and pony rides for £2.

Harewood House

The animals at Harewood House are magical. That is the best way to describe them. Beautiful rare birds such as immaculate flamingos, mischievous parrots, and tiny waddling penguins will have you swooning at the Harewood House bird garden. Every day at 11:00 a.m. and 15:30, you can watch them get fed live. These aren’t the kinds of animals you’d expect to see in Leeds!

Swithens Farm

You can feed the animals at Swithens Farm by purchasing apples and carrots from the farm shop (or bringing your own). Ducks, turtles, rabbits, cows, and llamas are among the animals on the farm, as are ducks, turtles, rabbits, cows, and llamas.

The Donkey Sanctuary

Donkey Sanctuary is a charity that works for the welfare of donkeys around the world. The charity started one day in 1969, Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE made a dedication to the lucky donkey called Naughty Face. Today, her legacy continues and the Donkey Sanctuary has been able to take over 20,000 donkeys into care. You can visit some of the Donkey’s at the Donkey Sanctuary here in Leeds!

Wildlife World, Lotherton

Another fantastic spot to visit if you want to see some animals is Wildlife World. Come along and watch a colony of South American Humboldt penguins splash around in the pool. You can then pay a visit to the resident capybaras and tapirs and flamingos.
