It’s that time of year again; final year university students across the country have started to hand in their dissertations and are celebrating their hard work with the classic hand-in photo. We have spoken to students across the country about what it’s like to finally hand in their dissertations after spending months of hard work on it, and here’s what they had to say…
Keeley – University of Lincoln
Keeley is studying BA Hons English Literature and Language at the University of Lincoln. Her dissertation was on the presentation of the character of Merlin’s connections to nature in Medieval Literature, and it was over 10,000 words long!
She said:
“It feels amazing knowing I did that and wrote that piece of work that I’m very proud of. However it was also very nerving to submit, and I was and still am very paranoid that I had done something wrong or not quite right.”
Stacey – Nottingham Trent University
Stacey is a student at Nottingham Trent University and is studying for a BA Hons degree in Childhood Studies. Her dissertation was on Children’s Holistic Wellbeing and was 10,000 words.
She said:
“I cried when I submitted it, I couldn’t believe I did it.”
Nicholas – University of Aberdeen
Nicholas is studying Exercise and Health Science at the University of Aberdeen, where he has completed a 9000 word dissertation.
He said:
“It’s a massive weight off my shoulders to have it finished. I’m also pretty chuffed with myself, I left school with 1 higher grade, which was P.E, didn’t think I’d ever go to uni.”
Ruby – University of Plymouth
Ruby is a BSc International Hospitality Management student at the University of Plymouth. She wrote her 9000 word dissertation on Sustainable Practices within Two Luxury Hotels in England: Does Size Matter?
She said:
“It feels amazing, I honestly can’t believe I’ve done it. I’m very rarely proud or happy with myself, but for me this is a massive achievement and I’m feeling pretty happy with the work I have submitted. I’m really looking forward to starting work after university and beginning my career journey within the hospitality industry.”
Georgina – Bishop Grosseteste University
Georgina is a student studying for a BA hons degree in Primary Education with QTS at Bishop Grosseteste University. Her dissertation was on How outdoor learning impacts on pupil wellbeing and is 8250 words long. Georgina feels relieved now she has submitted her dissertation.
She said:
“It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
Aimee – University of Glasgow
Aimee is studying English Literature at The University of Glasgow and has just completed her 10,000 word dissertation on how drag is an educational mouthpiece. She looked at drag in Shakespeare plays and RuPaul’s Drag Race whilst focusing on how drag queens talk about taboo subjects but do it in a comical way that allows the audience to get a deeper insight into the issues discussed.
She said:
“I feel so relieved having it finished! This year has been extra stressful because there were barely any classes and what we did have was entirely online. We also didn’t have access to any books in the library because of Covid, which made it even more stressful! Now I’m going to focus on finding a job related to my degree and catching up on some drag race.”
Sinead – Nottingham Trent University
Sinead is studying Education and Special Needs at Nottingham Trent University. Sinead wrote her 10,000 word dissertation on the media portrayal of ADHD and that the hardest part was all of the researching.
“It was overwhelming with how much I needed to write and how time-consuming that was. But now that her dissertation is complete and has been handed in, she feels relieved.”
