Winter always brings the icy cold, but unfortunately, it doesn’t always guarantee snow. So if you’re in the mood for skiing, snowboarding or other winter sports, you might need to go fake! From ski resorts with dry slopes, to indoor skiing centres, here are the best places in the UK to get your fix.

The best places for indoor skiing 

1. Chill Factore, Manchester

The UK’s longest indoor ski slope is situated near the Trafford Centre, Manchester. Chill Factore has real snow, which is a big plus for skiing and snowboard enthusiasts! For those who just want to have fun, there’s a bar so you can celebrate all those faceplants at the end! That’s why it’s also a great idea to head here to when celebrating a birthday or special occasion in Manchester.

2. SnowDome, Tamworth

Claiming to be the first indoor skiing venue in the UK to use real snow, SnowDome is definitely a favourite. You can choose from lessons to lift passes, letting you choose whether you need assistance or just freedom to enjoy! Beyond skiing and snowboarding, you can also go ice skating, climbing or visit the spa! During Christmas, there’s also a Winter Wonderland to feel festive.

3. Snozone, Yorkshire

Also boasting real snow, Snozone is a popular place for indoor skiing in the UK, with locations in Yorkshire and Milton Keynes. There’s also one in Madrid if you fancy a quick trip to Spain? The Yorkshire centre is open everyday and offers memberships. There’s also a lovely on site Alpine Kitchen for a sumptuous winter feel.

4. Snozone, Milton Keynes

Snozone at Milton Keynes is pretty impressive. Forget the UK, it’s Europe’s largest indoor skiing centre with real snow. It’s suitable for all abilities, so don’t be put off by its claim to fame. You can also go in groups, which makes it ideal to enjoy with uni mates.

5. The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead

This is a great place to go for indoor skiing if you’re a beginner and just starting out. The Snow Centre has the largest indoor lesson slope in the UK, so you’ll have plenty of room to practice. Make sure you take some time to enjoy the alpine-themed restaurant and ride the Ringo Slide!

The top dry ski slopes in the UK

1.Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre

This is dry ski slope centre is easily reached from Cardiff, located just ten minutes from the city centre. There’s lessons, competitions, a freestyle club and much more going on. Oh, and it’s another place you can try out tubing, which we highly recommend!

2. Stoke Ski Centre

Focusing on freestyle skiing and snowboarding, Stoke Ski Centre has some of the best dry slopes in the UK. You can also give tubing a go here, or practice race training! Or why not book a party with mates for something a bit different to another club night.

3. Halifax Ski & Snowboard Centre

The most important thing to mention about this UK dry ski slope centre is that it hosts ski and pizza parties. Oh and for all ski and snowboarding pros, the slopes here are made from Snowflex, which is the best non-snow surface around. You might catch a sporting celeb practising here too, where the likes of Jamie Nicholls, Andy Nudds and Tyler Harding have all been spotted in the past.

4. Silksworth Sports Complex & Ski Slope, Sunderland

The only UK ski slope in the north east of England, you can find two nursery slopes and one main slope. You can also make a day of it or go there with non-skiing mates. There’s an artificial football pitch and track race available too.

5. Knockhatch Ski & Snowboard School, East Sussex

Located in Hailsham, this UK ski and snowboard centre is great for both beginners and pros. There’s different sessions available depending what you want to do. Plus, like most of the indoor and outdoor ski centres in the UK, there’s equipment provided. So you just have to show up!

6. Alpine Snowsports Aldershot

Forget tubing, you can try donutting here! Sit yourself in an inflatable ring and whizz down a ski slope, sounds great right? But if you do want to go skiing or snowboarding, you’re in the perfect place here. You can even take up coaching lessons at Alpine Snowsports to hone your skills.

7. Brentwood Park Ski & Snowboard Centre

Arguably the most picturesque ski centre in the UK, with dry slopes that overlook scenic forests. Brentwood has a range of sessions alongside the usual lessons and lift pass tickets. So, for example, if you want to try a ladies only night, you can. Or join the race club for fast-paced adrenaline fun, then you can also do it here!

8. Runcorn Ski Centre

You can try a private ski lesson at Runcorn Ski Centre for just £35, which is quite reasonable. Or for something a little cheaper, you can also join their public group lessons too. It’s a less popular spot than not-too-far-away Chill Factore, so you’ll likely have more freedom. There’s also the bonus of fresh air for a true winter feel.

9. Llandudno Snowsports Centre

The website for Llandudno Snowsports Centre provides plenty of information so you can feel truly prepared. If you’re a Level 4 in skiing or Level C in snowboarding, then you’re permitted to book onto open practice. If not, you’ll need to take a few lessons to get you up to speed. But this UK skiing centre promises it’s possible in just a day!

10. Ski Rossendale

Promising to bring the Alps to the UK, Ski Rossendale has a great selection of activities to try. You can ski or snowboard down their dry slopes, or try tubing or airsoft shooting! There’s everything for skiiers and snowboarders, from beginner or improve sessions to professional coaching.
