As we come into summer (even if the weather is…less than sunny), we Brits break out the BBQs. We all find the nearest garden, park or beach and start burning meat and getting a little tipsy. If you want to up your BBQ game, we’ve got the best summer BBQ recipes for all diets…ok maybe not fruitarians but you know…
For the meat-eaters…
1. Lemon and Herb Chicken
Want to make your own BBQ Nandos? This BBC Good Food lemon chicken only needs lemon, parmesan, rocket, vinegar, olive oil, chicken, garlic, rosemary and sage. It’s an easy recipe, with a nice chance to take your anger out when flattening the chicken!
2. Pulled Pork
Pulled pork is a must-have on a hot day with a BBQ. This recipe makes it even better, by making it easier to make! All you’ll need is paprika, ground cumin, pepper, brown sugar, salt, cider, shoulder of pork, BBQ sauce, and then the rolls to put it with!
3. Chicken Tikka Skewers
Not a fan of the milder tastes? Need something with a touch more kick? These chicken tikka skewers are tasty, simple and will go down a treat. You will need low-fat natural yoghurt, hot curry paste, chicken breast, cherry tomatoes, chapatis, and then anything you fancy pairing with them! Skewers are actually great BBQ recipes for all diets, as you can tweak what’s on them but cook them in similar ways.
4. BBQ Rainbow Beef Salad
Fancy something lighter than pulled pork and big burgers? This rainbow beef salad is a delightful tasty extravaganza. For it, you will need sirloin steaks, ginger, garlic, limes, sesame oil, soy sauce, chillies, lettuces, radishes, carrots, cucumber, spring onion, avocado, and some sesame seeds.
5. The Full Works Burger
A little bit of everything, sandwiched in one big, meaty burger. You’ll need steak mince, red onion, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, chilli flakes, brioche burger buns, vine tomatoes, cheese, gherkins and lettuce, plus additional extras for the recommended delightful burger sauce. Burgers are another of the best BBQ recipes for all diets, where you can buy different burgers but reuse toppings across diets.
For the vegetarians…
1. Halloumi Kebabs
You really can’t go wrong with halloumi. These kebabs require very little effort, other than chopping up your ingredients! You’ll need courgettes, red onion, halloumi and tomatoes. Sorted.
2. Black bean burgers (Vegan friendly too!)
A great, meaty texture, these delicious back bean burgers are ideal for any BBQ. You’ll need some rinsed black beans, rice, onion, fennel seeds, garlic salt, paprika, panko breadcrumbs and parsley, and they’ll need making before the BBQ so that you don’t have to run off to build them after a few Pimms!
3. BBQ Jackfruit Burger
A typical go-to for meat alternatives, jackfruit is super useful! All you’ll need to make these great burgers is some jackfruit, cider, buns, ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, vinegar, and cayenne pepper.
4. Courgette, Runner Beans and Ricotta Salad
If you fancy something lighter, this side is perfect. You’ll need seeds, honey, chilli, lemon, ricotta, courgettes, runner beans and olive oil. Simples!
5. Stuffed Peppers
It’s really as simple as it looks. You’ll need some peppers, olive oil, long grain rice, pine nuts, garlic, vegetable stock, spring onions, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, gorgonzola, parsley and basil.
For the vegans…
1. Barbecue Sesame Sweet Potatoes
These sweet potatoes are guaranteed to be the best sweet potatoes you have ever had – and so it’s bound to impress at the next BBQ! You’ll need sweet potatoes, oil, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, lime, sesame seeds, peanuts, chilli and spring onions.
2. Vegan BBQ Teriyaki Tofu
Teriyaki is a favourite flavour, and just because you’re plant-based doesn’t mean you have to miss out! This recipe needs soy sauce, soft brown sugar, ground ginger, mirin, sesame oil, very firm tofu, rapeseed oil, courgettes, tenderstem broccoli, and sesame seeds to garnish.
3. Vegan Burger
Just because you’re not eating meat, doesn’t mean you don’t want a lovely BBQ burger in the summer! This chickpea burger is perfect for an alternative. You will need onion, celery, parsley, chickpeas, garam masala, tomato puree, flour, polenta, oil and some buns!
4. Griddled Veg with Melty Aubergines
Your 5-a-day, but make it BBQ (and an easy go-to BBQ recipes for all diets)! This recipe needs aubergine, lemon, garlic, chopped parsley, olive oil, seed mix, thyme leaves, rapeseed oil, red pepper, large onion, courgettes, tomatoes and olives. Every taste you could want, all swirled together on a BBQ. Perfecto!
5. Vegan Kebabs
Kebabs are a BBQ staple, and we are not going to let you miss out! For these vegan kebabs, you’ll need olive oil, garlic cloves, chilli flakes, rosemary, portobello mushrooms, peaches, courgettes, red onions, avocado, lemon, wholegrain mustard, rocket and mixed seeds.
