“A few years ago, my friend set me up on a dating app. I’d never tried one before and hadn’t been in a relationship for a while, so I thought why not? She got everything set up and showed me how to use it, and before long, I had my first match. He seemed super nice and down-to-earth, so we got talking and hit it off right away. After a little while, we found out we lived pretty close to each other, so we planned to meet up for a date.”

“I headed to the restaurant where we agreed to meet, and I was pretty excited to see him in person after only talking online. However, when I went in, he wasn’t there yet. I didn’t mind much, so I just went and sat at the table and ordered a drink. After about half an hour though, he still wasn’t there, so I was starting to think that he stood me up. As I was about to leave, I saw him at the door looking for me and then rushing over to the table. He said that there had been some confusion between him and his sibling and that he was meant to go to his mum’s house tonight. But instead of just reorganising our date, he asked me if his mum could join us in the restaurant for the night. I didn’t know exactly what to say to that, but it seemed that she was already waiting in the car, so what could I do?”

“We then enjoyed our dinner date with him mum sat on a table just a few feet away from us. I’ve got to say this was definitely one of the weirdest dates I’ve ever been on, but he was perfectly polite, if not a little nervous due to the fact he was being watched by his mum. He offered to give me a lift home afterwards, but considering I would be sat next to his mum for the whole car ride; I said that I’d get a taxi. He never contacted me after that, which is probably for the best. Maybe the first date is a little too soon to meet the parents!”

“I met this girl in college, and we got on straight away. I asked her if she wanted to go and grab a bite to eat somewhere, and she seemed pretty enthusiastic about the idea, so we made it a date. I was really excited about it, so I bought a new shirt to make myself look a bit smarter, and I thought I looked pretty good. I picked her up, we headed to the restaurant and had some really good conversation over dinner.”

“She asked about my daily routine quite a lot, stuff like how regularly I went to the gym or if I cooked a lot at home. I thought she was just trying to get to know me a bit better until I suggested that we get some dessert when we finished our meal. She paused, and then just looked me up and down. I was worried that I’d offended her somehow, but then she just said, “I don’t think you really need dessert, do you?” I was gobsmacked, I didn’t even know how to react to something like that. I decided that I would just settle the bill and take her home as I didn’t want to spend more time there than I had to. All the way home, she kept telling about all these different diets and exercise routines that I could try. Needless to say, there wasn’t a second date.”

“I was at work when one of our regular customers asked me if I’d like to go on a date with him. I thought he seemed nice, and he was pretty cute, so I agreed, so I told him when I finished my shift and he said he’d meet up with me then. Obviously, this wasn’t something I expected to happen whilst I was at work, so I messaged my friend to let her know where I would be after work, and she said that she’d be in town if I needed an escape.”

“Later on, I finished my shift, and the guy was outside the store waiting for me. We started talking and went to a coffee shop, and we seemed to get on really well. It just so happens that the coffee shop that we went into was the hiding spot that my friend had chosen. I decided to go say hi, just to let her know that everything was going well and that she could go home if she wanted. However, my date introduced himself to my friend, and they started talking, so we all sat at the same table together.”

“It got to the point where these two were talking more than I was, so I felt a bit left out. I excused myself and went to the bathroom for a minute and told myself that I was just being silly and reading into things. After a while, I came back out with newfound confidence, only to find that they weren’t at the table anymore. I looked around the rest of the shop, and couldn’t see them anywhere.”

“Turns out that they got on so well that they decided to ditch me and head off on a date by themselves. Obviously, I wasn’t too happy about this, but I just headed home and waited to see my friend the day after. A year on, they’re still seeing each other, and I’m still single, so it’s back to square one!”
