Since mid-April and the start of Ramadan, tensions have significantly risen in the Middle East between Israel and Palestinians living in East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank, with clashes of conflict occurring nightly between the police and Palestinians. But the current Israel Palestine crisis began on May 6th when Israeli security forces confronted Palestinian civilians.

Gaza is ruled by a Palestinian militant group, and the Palestinians say they are suffering because o Israeli restrictions and actions, whilst Israel says it is just protecting itself from Palestinian violence.

Why is the conflict happening?

The conflict is happening due to there being a number of issues that Israel and the Palestinians are unable to agree on, such as what should happen to Palestinian refugees, should they remove Jewish settlements in the West Bank, whether Jerusalem should be shared, and if a Palestinian state should be formed. However, it seems that these issues will take some time to sort out.

But the reason the current unrest and conflict was sparked is due to the anger over the possible evictions of Palestinian families from East Jerusalem. These evictions have currently been delayed due to the current crisis.
