Firstly, what had Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of?
Testimony begins with recounts of when Heard fell in love with Depp
The high-profile testimony started off on a lighter foot as Heard recounts her first meeting, and when she fell in love with Depp. She describes their blossoming relationship on the tour of the movie, ‘The Rum Diary’ set in 2011, as leaving her ‘head over heels in love.’ At the time, their relationship had to be kept under the radar as his split with ex Vanessa Paradis, had not yet gone public. The long stints that Depp spent on film sets were cited as the main reason for his breakup with Paradis.
Heard said, Depp took issues with the clothing that she wore and was convinced she was cheating on him with friends.
After an initial honeymoon period, Heard reports that things with Depp started to go sour. Reportedly arguments turned violent and Heard stated that her then-husband started to throw objects at her in a rage. In fact, a psychologist that was paid on the stand by Heard’s lawyers said that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. This is supposedly from multiple acts of abuse by Depp, including sexual violence.
Amber Heard described how Johnny Depp lost control while he was on drugs and alcohol
Heard broke down in court as she described how Depp lost control when he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. She told the Jury that Depp “passed out in his own vomit, he’d lose control of his body and everyone cleaned up after him. I cleaned up after him.”
In fact, she said that his violent episodes were triggered by drug or alcohol use and intense jealously.
”Johnny on speed is very different from Johnny on opiates. Johnny on opiates is very different from Adderall and cocaine Johnny, which is very different from quaaludes Johnny, but I had to get good at paying attention to the different versions of him,” she said.
Heard details of alleged sexual assault against Depp
The Jury then heard how Depp’s violent temper led to alleged sexual assault. She said that Depp had angrily performed what he had described as a cavity search on her. The alleged incident took place when they went away for a nice night in the desert in May 2013 with friends. During this trip, they ingested psychotropic mushrooms. Heard alleges that Depp became jealous when he saw another woman supposedly flirting with his wife.
Heard said that back in the room, he accused her of hiding his drugs and ripped off her dress. She said, “He was telling me, ‘We’re going to do a cavity search,’ ” “He just shoved his fingers inside me. I just stood there, staring at the lights.”

Depp’s agent says his ex-wife’s 2018 op-ed piece was “catastrophic” to his career
Depp denies his ex-wife’s accusations. He is suing Heard for $50m (£38.2m) for the above, in the 2018 Washington Post-ed.
In court, Depp’s agent testified that the actor’s ex-wife’s 2018 op-ed piece was “catastrophic” to his career. They said that it coincided with the loss of a $23 million deal for a “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel.
Depp likened his relationship with Heard to abuse by his mother
Depp started off by likening his marriage to Heard to his turbulent relationship with his mother and an “endless parade of insults”. He accused Heard of “demeaning name-calling”, saying he was “berated” and “made a fool of” by his ex-wife.
What will the outcome of the case be?
With such a huge-profile case, there is a lot of speculation as to what the outcome of the court case will be. However in essence, in order for Depp to win, he must show that he was falsely accused by Heard. In addition to this, he needs to show that the op-ed piece is what caused the damage to his career and nothing else.
At the time of writing, the trial is still in process. It is meant to finish on Thursday the 19th of May 2022. You can follow live updates here.
