Those long nights at the library (or more likely hard partying at the best student nights in Nottingham) mean that coffee has become an essential part of your diet.
It’s the one thing that’s going to get you through that 3,000-worder or even seminar prep.
But you don’t want any old crud. No we want medium-roasted, mocha-choca-latte-chino. Grande, obviously.
To help you out, we’ve put together our favourite coffee shops near to Nottingham University (but none are too far from Trent either).
1. Gallery Cafe
Where? Djanogly Art Gallery, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD
If you’re feeling pretty lazy and don’t fancy going too far then the Gallery Cafe is a good bet. The cafe in the Djanogly Art Gallery deli-style sandwiches and snacks, salads plus lots of delicious cakes. There’s also a bunch of cards, books and museum-related items on sale if you fancy splashing a bit of cash.
2. Coates Cafe
Where? Coates Building, University Park
Another one for you lazy (or busy) folks out there, who don’t want to get off the University Park. There’s cheap sandwiches on sale (they start from £2) plus a whole bunch of gluten-free items. You can also get your hands on a load of pastries and rolls and boxed salads.
3. The Bean
Where? 1 Stoney Street, Beeston, NG9 2LA
The coffee aficionados at The Bean know their way around a good cup of coffee. In fact, when the shop was first opened in Beeston in 1998 it was one of the first speciality coffee shops in the UK. Now The Bean uses a mixture of science and magic to create the perfect cups of joe to get you through the day.
4. Toast
Where? 202 Derby Road, Nottingham
If you’re looking for a drink in a modern and comfortable setting then Toast has got to be the place for you. The delightful staff will be happy to look after you with their fantastic range of cakes, coffees and food. They source their food from award-winning and local suppliers so you know what you’re eating is going to be great.
5. The Specialty Coffee Shop
Where? 50 Friar Lane, Nottingham
Italian couple Lucy and Michelangelo share a passion for roasted beans, ground up and made into a drink. Six years ago the pair moved to London where they decided to open a coffee consultancy business. Then in 2014 they travelled to Costa Rica to volunteer at the El Toledo Organic Coffee Farm to experience how coffee is made. The following year they opened The Speciality Coffee Shop. Now the pair serve some of the best coffee in Nottingham, and it’s well worth the trip to Friar Lane to try it.
6. The Coffee House Of Nottingham
Where? 3 Hurts Yard, City Centre, NG1 6JD
It’s the first coffee shop in the Midlands to serve the world-renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee from bean-to-cup — and they’re rightly proud of that fact. They now serve some of the best coffee around in a relaxing atmosphere with friendly-staff. They also cater for gluten-free and vegan dietary requirements.
