First a snog, perhaps a cheeky sleepover and now, shit. They want a date. But don’t worry you’re pretty little Notts noggin’ about being skint. We know you spend most of your money on Maryland chicken and drinks at Ocean, so we’ve come up with some affordable options to woo the lady or gent who’s taken your fancy.
Anyone can do Netflix and chill, but these are bound to score you more points…
For a DINNER date
Junkyard
Where? 12 Bridlesmith Walk, Nottingham NG1 2FZ.
How much? Nothing over £11.
This cafe bar nails casual-cool, making it the perfect place for a laidback date. Their streetfood-like menu features burgers, nachos, bao buns and fries, which all fit the tasty but cheap student brief. It’s particulalry good in summer when you can sit out in the secret backyard and sample their craft beers in the sun. If the dates going well you can grab a few takeaway beers and take the party elsewhere…
Yamas Meze and Tapas
Where? 5 Thurland Street, Nottingham, NG1 3DR
How much? Expect to pay around £30 for enough food to feed two people.
I’m telling you from experience, the way to a girl’s heart is hummus. AND being fed from a selection of tiny meals that keep appearing on the table. So yeah, tapas at Yamas is a good idea.
The Cod’s Scallops
Where? 170 Bramcote Lane, Wollaton, Nottingham, NG8 2QP
How much? No more than £20 for two (unless you plan on getting lobster)
Nobody can complain about being treated to the finest fish and chips in Nottingham can they? A standard cod and chips will only set you back about £8 eat-in or £7 if you takeaway. On a balmy summers night bring a picnic rug, bottle of wine and enjoy your meal in the surrounding of Wollaton Park which is just a 10 minute walk away.
For a DRINKS date
Turtle Bay
Where? 8 Broad Quay, Bristol, BS1 4DA
How much? £7.15 cocktails, £3-£6 beer, cider and wine.
Turtle Bay’s huge collection of cocktails will keep you entertained for hours and the conversation will flow better if you’re a little tipsy. Head here for 2 for 1 cocktails before 7pm or after 9:30pm and you’ll have a jolly old time without forking out a fortune.
Kitty Cafe
Where? 31 – 37 Friar Lane, Nottingham, NG1 6DD
How much? £6 per adult.
If you or your date have moved away from home for uni, chances are at least one of you has left behind a lovable pet. So what better way to fill that void than by heading to the kitty cafe? They charge a £6 welfare fee for the cats and kittens, which we think is pretty fair for an hour of cuddles and you can grab a coffee too. Nothing is sexier than a man holding a kitty.
For an ACTIVITY date
Live show
Where? Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall
How much? £10-£27.50 per ticket
Musical, stage show or comedy — there’s plenty going on at the Royal. Matinees are often cheaper, so if you can organise your schedules to be free during the day it’ll help to lower the cost. Otherwise, you can purchase some evening tickets for a special occassion and pass it off as a present AND a date (sneaky).
Ice skating
Where? National Ice Centre — Bolero Square, Nottingham NG1 1LA
How much? £8.50 per person for a skate session and skate hire.
I mean, what better excuse to hold hands than to save yourself from eating shit on the ice? Even better if you’re a pro though and can impress them with some fully sick spins. Make sure you check their timetable for public skating times.
Go Ape
Where? Sherwood Pines Forest Park, B6030, Edwinstowe, Mansfield NG21 9JH
How much? Price varies depending on the time, day and activity, but expect to pay around £60-£90 for two people.
If you have a car and don’t mind driving the 40 minutes to Sherwood Pines, Go Ape is a date with a difference. Set in the rainforest, you can choose courses like tandem zip lining, tree top adventures and forest zegway. The views from the trees are pretty spectacular and they plenty of Instagram opportunities.
Savoy Cinema
Where? 233 Derby Rd, Nottingham NG7 1QN
How much? £6.50 per person.
Savoy is cheaper than your average cinema, only charging £6.50 a ticket per adult. It’s decked out with a bar so you can eat and drink before or after the film. PLUS you can book a double seat or ‘love seat’ and get extra cosy…
