With Christmas fast approaching, we’ve put together some of the best Christmas carols and concerts in Sheffield for you to see.
Sheffield Music Hub: Christmas Extravaganza
Sheffield Cathedral, 7th of December, 7-9pm
Featuring Sheffield Junior and Youth Choirs alongside the City of Sheffield Festival Band, this Christmas concert will take place at the Cathedral, which will definitely get you in the festive mood following their Christmas light show and Christmas tree festival on the 30th of November.
Black Dyke Band and Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus
Oval Hall | Sheffield City Hall, 18th of December, 2:30pm
Part of Sheffield’s International concert season, this event combines the award-winning Black Dyke Band with Sheffield Philharmonic to create a festive brass band like no other. If that wasn’t enough there will even be some audience participation so you can fully enjoy the yuletide spirit. No scrooges allowed.
London Concertante: Viennese Christmas by Candlelight
Sheffield Cathedral, 11th of December, 7-9pm
This chamber orchestra is one of the busiest in the country. It will leave audiences laughing, gasping and ultimately, moved by the beauty of their playing. At this event they will play a variety of classical Christmas tunes from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker to Brahm’s Hungarian Dance No. 5. Don’t worry about being ‘in the know’, 50% of attendees at the Concertante’s concerts are first time goers.
Peak Cavern
Throughout December Peak Cavern will be hosting a range of concerts from local bands such as Dronfield’s Genquip Band and Hathersage’s Band in the atmospheric cavern, located in the Hope Valley. Almost all the events are sold out so grab your tickets fast for a chance to experience carols in the ‘Devil’s Arse’ cavern.
Swing into Christmas
Firth Hall, 19th December, 7:30-9:30pm.
An alternative to serious orchestras, Newland Symphonic Pop’s offering will help you step into Christmas. Located in the beautiful Firth Hall on the University’s campus, this event promises Christmas songs in a big band style. There will be singers, a jazz trio and a 25 piece orchestra to help reimagine chart topping classics.
