So if you’re looking for that pub to call your local, here are the best pubs in Swansea, and what you can expect from them!

1. Wig and Pen

This pub is definitely one of the most popular ones amongst students, and there’s loads of reasons why. The Wig and Pen is one of the more reasonably priced places to drink in Swansea, and so loads of students go there to pre-drink. It gets especially busy on Wednesday night, which is student night, but there are nights when it is quieter and more relaxed. For entertainment, there are TV’s around the pub showing sports matches, and there is also a pool table at the back of the pub. They even have live music playing on some nights as well, so it’s the perfect place to go no matter what you’re looking for!

If you’re looking for a pub to pre-drink in, then Bank Statement is the place for you! This Wetherspoons is right in the middle of Wind Street, which is where most of the clubs in Swansea are! As you can imagine, it gets heaving on the weekends, so you should definitely go there early if you want to grab a seat! Sometimes the back room is turned into a small nightclub where music is played, so it’s probably not the best place to sit down and have a chat with your mates. It does get quiet during the day and on non-clubbing nights, but for the most part, it’s usually for pre-drinking. If you want to know where all these clubs are, then read our article on the best clubs in Swansea for students!

Noah’s Yard is further away from the city centre but still a popular pub in Swansea. This pub is in the Uplands area, which has a lot of student housing, so as you can imagine, this pub is pretty close to a lot of students. It’s definitely one of the smaller pubs on the list, but the inside is cosy and makes for a great place to chat to your mates. It does get full pretty quick, especially as there’s not much seating anyway, but it’s still worth going to if you want to go for a chat.

There’s a beer garden out front, which is perfect for the summer, but if it’s raining and miserable, they also have a shuffleboard table inside for you to play!

Potters Wheel is another Wetherspoons on our list, because honestly you can’t beat them. This one is a bit further away from the Wind Street, but that doesn’t make it any more quiet. There’s a popular nightclub right opposite the Potters Wheel, so as you can imagine, it gets packed on club nights. This Wetherspoons may be on the smaller side, but you’re more likely to have a chill evening here, as it’s no way as busy as Bank Statement.

Going back to the city centre, The Olde Cross Keys is one of Swansea’s oldest pubs, if you couldn’t tell from the name. It dates back to the 1300s, and you can tell from the inside and out that they’ve kept the charm of it alive. The drinks are reasonably priced, and it’s right next to Wind Street, which is perfect for a night out. It’s only really full on weekends, so it’s a good place to sit down with some mates. Karaoke is hosted every Sunday night, whilst on other nights live music is playing!

Although Hogarths isn’t the most traditional pub, it’s still one of the best pubs in Swansea. They do sell most drinks you would find at a pub, but they’re also known for their huge gin selection. The inside looks like a cosy pub, as there’s loads of booths and comfy seats, but then the ceiling is huge and you can tell this place is just a little bit fancy. If you want a glass of gin, it’s the perfect place to go! Some nights are also dedicated to karaoke which is usually hosted by a drag queen, so you’ll always end up having a fun night at Hogarths.

Located at the top of Wind Street, The Griffin is a popular pub to pre-drink in. It’s always busy in here on the weekend, but they do host other events as well! This is a well-known sports bar, and so whenever there’s a sport match on, they bring out a projector screen so everyone in the pub can watch. The pub is pretty big so there’s usually loads of room for people, so you’re more likely to find somewhere to sit here than any other pub on this list!
