Cocktail bars are always a great place for a guaranteed good night out. The drinks are fun and the atmosphere is lively, so what’s not to love? Swansea has its fair share of cocktail bars, especially as it’s full of students during term time! So, if you’re starting at Swansea in September, or you’re just looking to see what it has to offer, here are some of our favourite cocktail bars in Swansea.

1. Slug and Lettuce

Slug and Lettuce may seem like an obvious choice, but can you blame us? This is definitely one of the most popular cocktail bars in Swansea, and there’s so many reasons why. If you’ve been to Slug and Lettuce before, you’ll know the vibe there is very Instagrammable, especially with the angel wing lights upstairs (you have to get a picture if you go – or you could also check out these Instagrammable restaurants in Swansea too)!

Some cocktails come in funky glasses, and you can even get a cocktail tree if there’s a group of you! If you’re looking for something a bit more special, they also do bottomless brunch and cocktail making masterclasses. But whatever you do, you definitely won’t be able to leave without taking a couple of pictures!

2. Kon Tiki

If you’re looking for cheap cocktails, then Kon Tiki is the place for you. This place is tucked away into a side street, so not many students know about it! Although Kon Tiki isn’t the biggest cocktail bar, it makes up for that in the price of their cocktails. They usually have a 2 for £10 deal on, but on Wednesday night, they lower the price down to 2 for £6! You won’t find cheaper cocktails anywhere else in Swansea, and as the bar is tiki-themed, some of the cocktails are as well! The floor may get sticky and the bar can get crowded, but it’s still one of my favourite places to start out a Wednesday night.

3. Peppermint

Peppermint is both a restaurant and cocktail bar right in the middle of Wind Street. If you look at their menu, they mostly sell their own cocktails, so if you’re expecting a mojito or a sex on the beach, you may not get what you’re looking for. Although, all of their cocktails are unique and you can definitely expect to enjoy them! Another thing about Peppermint is that in the night, they turn into a nightclub! This is great if you fancy a dance, but if you’re looking for a place to sit down and chat, then I’d recommend going earlier on in the evening.

4. Bambu

Swansea has not only one, but two tiki-themed cocktail bars! Bambu definitely goes all out on their beach theme, as they give out leis to people as often as they can. Some seating is beach-themed swings, and as you can imagine, the cocktails are tiki-themed as well. Bambu is mostly known for being a nightclub, so although there are places to sit and have a chat, it’s definitely difficult when the music is at nightclub volume. But hey, if you’re looking to dance and sip on some cocktails, then this is the place for you!

5. SIX

Since SIX isn’t on the main clubbing street (Wind Street if you hadn’t noticed), it isn’t a place where most students go. However, it’s still a great cocktail bar in Swansea. It’s definitely a bit quieter than some other places in Wind Street on this list, so you’re more likely to get a table and actually be able to have a chat with whoever you’re with! The bar gives off nightclub vibes, but there’s a separate cozy room with sofas and a TV for a more chill atmosphere. You can’t not love the way this place is decorated, and obviously the cocktails are amazing. Happy hour is also every single day until 8pm, so get there early to get those cocktails cheap!

6. Bookshop cocktail bar

Going a bit further away from Wind Street is the Bookshop cocktail bar in Uplands. Although it’s not on the main clubbing street, it’s actually right in the middle of a student housing area, so it’s definitely easier to get to for those of you who are living in Uplands! They sell some old favourites such as a margaritas and pińa coladas, but then also a few of their own creations as well! This place isn’t too expensive, as most of their cocktails average at around £8! As it’s only open Friday and Saturday nights, you won’t be able to go here during the week. However it’s a great cocktail bar to go when you want a big night out as it’s also a nightclub too!

7. The Perch

Another restaurant and cocktail bar combo is The Perch. This place is definitely more chill than some others on the list, as they put as much focus on the food as they do on their cocktails. They have some interesting sounding cocktails, such as ‘caravan’ and ‘k-pop’, but they also have some classics like a long island iced tea. The Perch isn’t too expensive, as most of their cocktails cost between £8 and £9. They also offer 2-4-1 cocktails either all day between Sunday and Thursday, or between 12-7pm on Friday and Saturday! Live music is played as well, which really fits in with their chill atmosphere. It does become a nightclub in the evenings, but it always looks like loads of fun!

8. Bar Americanos

Who doesn’t love a sea view when they’re at a cocktail bar? Bar Americanos offers just that, as their cocktail bar is in the Marina in Swansea, one of the prettiest places in the city. Although this place obviously sells great cocktails, they are extremely well-known for the live music in the bar. On most days there’s usually someone singing or playing an instrument, which is perfect if you’re looking for a chill place to go. It’s the perfect place to sit in and listen to the music, or sit outdoors in their heated outdoor area to enjoy the views.

Address: Prince of Wales dock, Kings Rd, Swansea SA1 8PP

There’s so many different places to try out on this list, you might be fed up of cocktails by the end of it (although I doubt it)! If you love all things cocktails but also love a bargain, then read our article on the best bars for 2-4-1 cocktails in Swansea!
