2018 starred Jeffree Star in his first very public drama that involved fellow beauty community Youtubers: Gabriel Zamora, Manny MUA, Laura Lee and Nikita Dragun. The problem revolved about the racist past of multiple individuals in the community. The involved Youtubers all had a few controversies due to their racially motivated comments about people of colour. The attacks became personal in-between the group, and the first wave of cancellations occurred. The public break-up of former 5 close friends was sad to watch. However, it showed the ingrained problems within the community that define the causal racism present.

Dawson and Star Duo Emerging

Shane’s focus on documentary making emerged. His debut series starred controversial Youtuber, Jake Paul. Secondly, the Youtuber tana Mongeau was featured after her failed attempt at her convention Tanacon.

Dawson then decided to follow the famous beauty mogul Jeffree star with his documentary the Secret World of Jeffree Star. This is where the duo emerged publicly. The series portrayed Jeffree in a good light, which was a good business move after the previous drama. The duo sparked much controversy and rumour spreading by speaking “in code” about certain events and individuals. The series was followed by a continuation titled the Beautiful World of Jeffree Star, which showed the stars working towards their makeup collaboration, with Shane launching his own collection with Jeffree. The Conspiracy Collection dragged a lot of attention to the two Youtubers. It is argued that the series.

2019: Dramageddon 2.0

Back in 2019, Tati released her famous ‘Bye Sister’ video about the inappropriate behaviour of James Charles. The drama got exacerbated the moment Jeffree Star started involving himself in the drama by talking about alleged receipts of James’s actions that he was never able to release. However, Star’s comments were so contradictory throughout the drama that it became hard to focus the truth. Therefore, there has been not much proof of the allegations. James has responded to the allegations with his own video that showed receipts of his own. When things calmed down, Tati released another video justifying herself and speaking a few apologetic words to calm down the situation. The breakdown of another mentor-mentee friendship became known as Dramageddon 2.0.

2020: The Aftermath or a continuation?

Dramageddon 2.1

Things seem to have calmed down for a while until Jeffree Star presented himself on Keemstar’s, who is known as the drama king in the community, podcast Mom’s Basement. Star made another alleged claim of receipts he has against James Charles; however, he could not release it as proof. Further, he blamed Tati for releasing her ‘Bye Sister’ as he believes he is now being told he ruined James Charles. On the podcast, he said: “No, Tati did, and uploaded a 40-minute video about him and she should never have uploaded that. But she did, and for some reason, James thinks that me and Shane tried to ruin his life and orchestrated the whole thing, like we effing care.” (Vulture, 2020).

Dramageddon 3.0

2020 has marked both Jeffree and Shane in a mostly negative light. The participation of Jeffree and Shane in Dramageddon 2.0 comes back to light as more information gets released. A lot of behind-the-scenes information surfaced after former employees of Star shared their experience working for Star as well as sharing information on the conversation Shane and Jeffree had about James Charles. It was not positive… Racial slurs seem to be pretty common in the Star household.

Dawson’s resurfaced to deny any involvement in the Dramageddon 2.0 drama and calls the beauty community “egoistic, narcissistic and vengeful” (Vulture, 2020). This reaction received a lot of backlash from fans and started a wider hatred towards Shane.

The never-ending hashtag #ShaneDawsonIsOverParty resurfaced as Dawson’s past catches up with him. The internet went on a long search of Dawson’s past to find clips of Dawson’s commenting inappropriately about child pornography and paedophilia. The presence of racism in Dawson’s past is also pretty common.

Dawson responded to all the attention given to him by releasing an apology video. The video sparked many negative reactions, and most people saw Shane as only making excuses and no accountability for his actions. Celebrity Jada Pinkett-Smith even called out the youtuber for only making excuses.

What topped off all the surfacing information was Tati Westbrook breaking her silence on everything and sharing her heartfelt thought about all that is happening. Among everything, she shared she is no longer able to discuss anything about the drama as she is pursuing legal action regarding Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star. Tati also takes time to say words of apology to a few Internet personas and then apologises for her blindness to the manipulation she faced.

The beauty community on YouTube seems to be undergoing massive changes in who becomes the leader. The fact that legal action is now being pursued suggests deep-rooted problems that obviously shouldn’t have been discussed about in public.
