We all love a good TV series, and Stranger Things has been one of the most popular shows of our generation since its first season was released in 2016. We expect to see season 4 released early next year, and here is everything you need to know about it so far?

Season 1-3 recap?

Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t already watched the first three seasons of the series, then I suggest you skip this section, but in case you don’t, I’ll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum.

Season 1 focused on the disappearance of Will Byers and the new girl in town 11, both of whom were helped by a group of friends. From being trapped in the upside-down to escaping a laboratory to friends going missing, these kids don’t have it easy, and it’s not much better for the teenagers and adults who are facing problems of their own.

Season 2 saw a lot of new characters introduced including Max, her older brother, and Bob who we all loved, but unfortunately he joined the shows body count after he was killed by a bunch of demodogs. However, the upside-down isn’t done with Will and is living inside him trying to draw him back. Meanwhile, 11 is still being hidden by Hopper, that is before she flees to find her sister, 9. We also get wind of a Russian spy in Nottingham, well at least that’s what the neighbourhood conspiracist thinks. But it’s all ok, 11 and babysitter Steve save the day, and everything appears fine at the Snowball dance.

Season 3 kicked off on July 4th, but it’s not long before the festivities are overthrown by chaos thanks to the Russian base trying to open the gate between the world and the upside-down. The new hotspot in town, Starcourt Mall, provides a lot of new scenes for the show, where the kids and teens can hang out, and the Russians can hide their research below. Before long, rules are being broken, rats are exploding, and kids are growing up. It ends with the ultimate battle at Starcourt, where they try to destroy the Russians secret weapon. We see even more characters die, which at the time we believed to include Hopper…

When will season 4 be released?

Thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, filming was disrupted for the Stranger Things season 4, as it had to pause after just two months of filming in early 2020. We expect the fourth season to be released in the first half of 2022 but cannot yet say for certain what date this will be. But what we do know thanks to a teaser released early in 2020 is that Hopper is alive! However, he seems to be trapped as a prisoner somewhere in the Soviet Union.

Who will be in season 4?

The series 3 main cast will be returning for the Stranger Things season 4, but we also expect to see the return of Matthew Modine as Dr Brenner, otherwise known by 11 as her papa. So we expect to see more flashbacks about her upbringing, as well as the other kids. New cast members will also be joining the show, including Jamie Bower as Peter Ballard, Eduardo Franco as Jonathan’s new best friend Argyle, and Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund as Victor Creel.

Whilst a storyline is not yet clear, we expect to learn more about 11’s upbringing and the work of Dr Brenner with the government, whilst also watching tensions rise between the US and the Russians, linking to the ongoing Cold War during the time the show is set. However, as filming continues this year, we hope that more teasers will be released soon, and maybe even an official trailer before the end of the year.
