Are you looking for effective ways to get fit this January? You’ve come to the right place as we are about to give you powerful tips to kick start the new year!
Here’s our tips to living a healthier 2020.
1) Drink more water.
limit your intake of fizzy drinks, juices, and alcohol. If you want to lead a healthier lifestyle, then you need to fill your body with water. You don’t need chemicals and artificial drinks to hydrate. Your fitness journey will be more successful if you switch to drinking water. Complete your 8 glasses of water every day.
2) Eat healthy food.
Limit eating junk food. As tempting as it might be to fill that fast food craving, your body will thank you for limiting those takeaways and fast foods. Your body needs nutrients and the best way to get them is through vegetables and fruits. We would recommend cooking your food before you go to your first class in the morning. Search for healthy recipes before hand. Usually, home-cooked meals are better than the ones you can buy at the cafeteria because you can control the ingredients you put in them. You can manage the calories you want to consume for the day and on top of that, you can save more money from buying inexpensive foods.
3) Workout 3-4 times a week.
You don’t need to work out every day. 4-3 times a week is enough. But, we understand you may have other priorities so try to incorporate exercise with social, for example you could look into joining a sports society or taking a friend with you when you exercise.
4) Discipline is the key.
Discipline is the key to achieving a healthy lifestyle, especially when you’re doing this at university. There are so many distractions but just remember your end goal and this should motivate you forward.
5) Exercise with your peers.
Working out is better if you have someone to do it with you. Find peers who have the same goal as you. Start a gym membership with them. Motivate each other to work out as regular as you can despite your overloaded schedule at university. Adjust to each other’s schedules so you can still work out together.
6) Avoid sweets.
Sweets are hard to resist but for a summer body, you can definitely avoid them. Don’t eat too much chocolate or candies. If you are craving it, choose dark chocolates as they have lesser sugar.
7) Count your calories.
When you are cooking your food, make sure that you are counting the calories you are putting in your food. You don’t have to be a nutritionist to do it. You can search the internet for basic steps and Myfitness Pal is a great app to help you with this.
8) Sleep for 8 hours.
Getting enough sleep will help you to lead a healthier life in 2020. It is recommended to get between 6-8 hours sleep a night. If you struggle to sleep, following a bedtime routine will help you to unwind and de-stress before bed. We would recommend strictly putting down your phone an hour before bed to allow your mind to rest and for your body to know it is now time for sleep.
9) Use your university’s gym.
If you are worried about the cost of a gym membership, then look out for student discounts at your local gyms. Most gyms will offer a reduced rate for students. You can also check to see if your university has a gym that you could join for a reduced rate.
10) Exercise in the morning.
It has been revealed that working out in the morning is better, because it is easier to commit to before your day starts and commitments get in the way. It is also a great way to wake up your body and increase your energy levels.
