The great social movement continues to shine a light on the global #blacklivesmatter movement, with protests and rallies taking place around the UK and the world over.
With a potential easing of the lockdown regulations in the UK, we are seeing more participants and activists actively engaging in the events that are taking place, spreading awareness to all.
However, if you’re still feeling a little cautious of attending a protest or a mass gathering of people don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Here are a few other ways you can spread awareness and support the movement and the black community:
Donating to the cause.
Following the death of George Floyd in the US that initially sparked the anti-racist protests, a number of fundraising campaigns and other donations have been set-up. Many of these opportunities have been put in place with the intention of supporting the black community, the victims and the families of those affected by racial discrimination and police brutality and supporting the wider Black Lives Matter movement. Below mentioned are links to organisations that you can help fund to support the movement and help the fight against racism.

Sign and share petitions.
A number of petitions are now in circulation online calling for the justice be done for victims of racial injustice and violence. The Justice for George Floyd petition demand that all officers present at Floyd’s death be arrested and charged with murder. Two useful Google Docs include links to many more petitions and resources: find them here and here.
Express your solidarity on your socials.
Every voice matters. No matter your following on Instagram, Facebook or any other social media platforms, posting and sharing content brings awareness to the heinous acts of racists across the world. Sharing your content with hashtags such as #BlackLivesMatter and #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd makes your content easily accessible by others also wanting to understand and learn more on the rapidly developing situation.
Keep listening and learning.
The easiest way to stay on top of things and support the cause can be to follow your local news outlets. The easiest way for you to get clued up on these events would be to google a little bit on the topic. Figure out exactly why people are taking to the streets and protesting. Understand what exactly we are fighting for and have been fighting for since the abolition of the slave trade. Another great way to become knowledgeable while being entertained would be to watch one of the many great films and TV that showcase the systemic racism that takes place in our society. These include:
Support black creators and businesses.
On a more individual level you can support the community by shopping and consuming products sold by black people’s businesses and creative. Buy their books and music or film, amplify their voice by sharing their message, promote and patronise their restaurants, cafes, shops and bars. Every little effort helps in spreading awareness and promoting the cause.
