Looking for the next place to study in, or do you simply enjoy reading and are looking for new books? Whether you’re bored of the same four walls in Hallward, or you want to go to the library with friends outside of your uni, than here is a compiled list of public libraries in Nottingham which you should check out.
Beeston Library
Address: Foster Avenue, Beeston
This library is perfect if you live in the Beeston area and don’t fancy the trek to uni. It has a wide collection of books, newspapers and magazines, including specifics on local history. It has free WiFi and refreshments available, making it the perfect place to work on your essay. There are also PCs available to hire, which is great if you don’t have your own laptop. During the lockdown, this library is currently closed but in normal times the opening hours are 9 am-4:30 pm.
Bromley House Library
Address: Angel Row, Nottingham
Whilst you need a membership to access this library, you are allowed to visit for a tour if you want to get a taste of what this library has to offer. Founded in 1815, its home to nearly 50,000 books and has the perfect atmosphere to relax, study, or meet friends for a cup of coffee. It also has a beautiful walled garden and is perfect if you prefer to work outside. Again, this is currently closed due to COVID restrictions, but normally itis available to members and non-members (for a tour) as long as you book in advance.
Meadows Library
Address: Wilfred Grove, The Meadows
During normal times, this library is open 10-6 every weekday and is easily accessible through public transport. The Nottingham City bus number 11 stops outside the library, therefore making it easy to get to. It has computers and community rooms for hire, WiFi access, a reading garden and a photocopier. It also stocks books in Polish and in multiple Asian languages including Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarti, Hindi and Bengali. This is perfect if your degree focuses on language/cultural studies. During non-corona times it also has regular activities, including a reading group and an Urdu reading group.
Radford Lenton Library
Address: Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham
This public library is perfect for students living in Lenton, as it offers quiet rooms that are great to study in, and you don’t have to walk half an hour to campus to get to the libraries there. It’s a refurbished Carnegie building, offering comfortable places to either read books or study in, and you can also hire computers there as well. During normal times it is open every Monday, Wednesday, Friday (9:30-18:00) and Saturday (9:30-13:00).
Whilst there are not many public libraries available in Nottingham, it is probably best to visit the libraries that your university has to offer. Both UoN and Trent offer a range of libraries to its’ students, and you are most likely to find what you need in there. However, if you fancy a different location, or somewhere a bit more local to where you live, than the libraries listed above a great to check out.
