Well, it’s safe to say we are firmly into 2022 now and as summer approaches, so does the festival season. In fact, there are so many brand new festivals lined up for the summer months. One of these is Rhythms Sans Frontières (RSF), a music and arts festival that will debut this year. This Suffolk based event will bring together performers from a variety of genres. These will include Indie sounds, Latin, R&B, Jazz Fusion, Raggae and AfroBeat. This year’s festival is set to take place from the 1-3 July 2022, in Euston Park, Suffolk, UK. It’s inclusive of all ages and family-friendly- in fact, children and under 15-year-olds are free at RSF.

What’s great about this event is that it’s so much more than a music festival. Of course, there is a fantastic lineup with the likes of Latin Jazz band Nebula Sun, US R&B singer Yaya Bey and high energy girl band All Day Breakfast Café. Not to mention, an 11 piece Jazz fusion group Levitation Orchestra and late-night Jazz Jam. You can view this full festival line-up here.

However, this festival will also have immersive speaker tents that will cover key environmental and human rights issues. Expect to see leading international NGOs and charities (including Amnesty International, Medecins sans Frontières, Frank Water, and World Land Trust) giving talks.

The festival’s artistic director, Gary Newland has said:

“We are aiming for the festival to be truly groundbreaking not just in terms of the eclectic mix of artists coming along, but also our emphasis on important issues concerning the environment, climate change and human rights.”

Music and dance workshops

Additionally, RSF will host music and dance workshops. These will include African Drumming, Beatbox, Street Dance, Yoga and more. Among the artists hosting these sessions are three-time Grammy Award-winning percussionist and drummer Magatte Fall. They are a Senegalese performer who is now based in Los Angeles, who helped compose the score for Hollywood blockbuster Black Panther.  Mariana Pinho, a leading dancer and choreographer in Brazilian traditional dance forms, will also lead workshops.

There will also be circus skills workshops and international storytelling for younger festival-goers. Children will love the junk percussion workshops where artists and instrument makers will give instructions for making instruments from recycled materials.

Environmentally-friendly practices are going to be a key part of festivals moving forwards, and Rhythms Sans Frontières has many eco-friendly policies in place to minimise its carbon footprint. In fact, it is their ambition to become a fully Carbon neutral festival. You can read more about their green practices here.
