Written by Lauren Pinkney

SW4 returns for its sixteenth year on the 24th and 25th of August, bringing the greats of the dance music scene to the capital for a weekend of stellar performances.

The ultimate EDM festival is back and it’s brimming with hot new talent and legendary headliners. Expect the unleashing of addictive summer anthems, DnB belters, electric rock and everything in between.

If you’re heading to SW4 this year to soak up the rays, or if you’re yet to buy a ticket (hint: you should!), it’s best to get an idea of what’s on offer so you can make it the most memorable weekend of your summer.

Unifresher is here to give you the ultimate rundown of SW4 2019 …

Saturday 24th August

Big names you can’t miss… UK chart-topping legend Tinie Tempah will be kicking things off on the main stage. If you don’t know who this guy is, I’m afraid there really is no hope for you! Be careful not to ‘Pass Out’ while raving to his extensive collection of no.1 hits, including ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’.

British icon Craig David will make the indoor main stage his own as he works his magic on the decks and mic. As well as his own twenty UK no.1 hits, this music legend will be presenting a hand-picked selection of dance music talent throughout the day, including Sigma and Mabel. If you can’t trust Craig David to choose what tunes you listen to, who can you trust?

Example will be making a very welcome appearance as a special guest on Stage 3. Example’s tracks found fame over ten years ago with hits like ‘Kickstarts’ and ‘Changed the way you kiss me’, yet he remains a staple on playlists across the British clubbing and hip-hop scene. This appearance is not one to miss!

Dance-pop sensation Sigala will make a spectacular debut to the Capital Weekender Stage with his feel-good anthems. Meanwhile, Disciples is headlining the Ministry of Sounds Stage. Keep an eye out for DJ turned actor turned DJ (turned new James Bond?) Idris Elba

Martin Garrix of ‘Animals’ fame will pull in the crowds on Saturday night for his highly-anticipated headline set on the main stage. Garrix wowed audiences with three new IDs (unreleased tracks) during his impressive performance at Sziget Festival in Hungary this week. With recent hit summer anthems like ‘Summer days’ ft. Macklemore and Patrick Stump and ‘These Are The Times’ ft. JRM, as well as the possibility of some unheard tracks, this is the place to be when the sun sets over Clapham Common.

Hot talent to watch out for… Technik will be gearing up crowds for a weekend of musical mayhem on the Ministry of Sound Stage. Speaking to Unifresher, the duo said, “we want to ease people into the day with soft, melodic sounds that’ll get them excited for the rest of the day! SW4 is huge! It’s been around forever, bringing the biggest electronic artists, and the music is really varied. Armand Van Helden and Eli & Fur are amongst our favourites!”

It’s safe to say, Technik have good taste. The remix king Armand Van Helden has been an established part of the electric scene for years and has collabed with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and A-Trak. Catch him on the outdoor main stage.

As for Eli & Fur, this pairing’s groovy tunes and unique vocals have created a lot of buzz on the house and techno scene. They’ll be joining Technik over with the Ministry of Sound.

Unifresher top pick…Nathan Dawe never plays the same set twice. Yep, never! Craig David has hand-picked Dawe to bring his electrifying energy to the indoor main stage. It’s impossible to put Nathan Dawe in a box. His sets take crowds on a high octane trip from Hip Hop to House to Baseline and back again – nothing is ruled out!

Sunday 25th August

Big names you can’t miss… Plan B will enchant festival goers with his soulful voice on the main stage on Sunday afternoon. This critically acclaimed artist has proven his musical talents can’t be limited to a single genre. Rap, Soul and House are all in his repertoire. Expect to be blown away.

Over on the indoor main stage, electronica duo Chase and Status will ‘RTRN II Jungle’ as they showcase their versatile, dance floor-filling talents. Experimenting with Garage, Drum ‘n’ bass and Electronic Rock has won them scores of acclaim over four studio albums. It will be great to see what they have for us as they return to their London roots.

King of the Grime scene, Wiley will bless the Capital Xtra stage with his MBE standard musical talents. Wiley was integral to the creation of the Grime scene and helped make it the thriving genre it is today. His much anticipated thirteenth studio album ‘Godfather III’ is set to be released in September. The Capital Xtra stage is going to be awash with fans wanting to pay their respects to “the Godfather of Grime” himself.

As night falls over Clapham Common, crowds will gather for a breath-taking production by main stage headliners Pendulum Trinity, a trio of electric music legends. Complete with old and new hits, special guests and a spectacular lighting display, this will go down as an unforgettable SW4 finale!

Hot talent to watch out for… If it’s heavy bass-lines you’re after, look no further. Kanine made the DnB scene his own last summer with his take on ‘Hackney Parrot’ and he’s only gone from strength to strength. Check him out on the Crucast stage.

Celebrating twenty years since they exploded onto the scene, legendary neurofunk group Black Sun Empire will be bringing the heat to the Fabric Live Stage. These guys have spent two decades perfecting the art of techstep – can’t argue with that!

Masicka performing live is a rare sight in the UK so this one is a must. This young Jamaican DJ is rising to fame thanks to his raw and vivid lyrics. He’ll be over on the indoor main stage.
