Calling all music fans, this one is for you… With so many restaurants and bars to choose from in London, it can be hard to decide where to go. Perhaps you’re looking for somewhere to catch up with a group of friends, or maybe you’re heading out on date night? Well if that’s the case, then Hard Rock Cafe London might be the perfect spot. These days, there are Hard Rock cafes all over the world from Costa Rica to the UAE to Australia. However, what many people don’t know is that the original one is right here in London. We recently joined Hard Rock for an Undiscovered concert in London, part of the global Hard Rock partnership with Playing for Change. So read on to find out more about the event and for a taste of what to expect at the Hard Rock Cafe.
What is the history of the Hard Rock Cafe?
Hard Rock was opened for the first time in 1971 by two American guys called Issac Tigrett and Peter Morton who wanted a decent American burger. A few years after opening, English rock and blues guitarist, Eric Clapton, hung his guitar over his favourite stool in order to mark his spot. The following week, The Who member, Pete Townshend, gave his guitar in too. This was the start of Hard Rock’s memorabilia, which is a vital part of the brand’s identity today.
The Vault at The Hard Rock Cafe
What many people don’t know is that the original Hard Rock cafe isn’t just a restaurant. In fact, the underground vault museum is home to some of the world’s most valuable rock memorabilia. It’s completely free to head down and take a look at the guitars and costumes from the likes of The Beatles, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix. What’s really cool is that the building was once a branch of Coutts Bank and the underground vault even has royal connections. It’s said The Queen had personal valuables stored there. Likewise, Princess Diana actually tried on her wedding dress in the chamber.
The menu
Hard Rock is known for its classic American menu and the food options don’t disappoint. You can tuck into an array of steakburgers, speciality entrees, milkshakes and sundaes. Don’t forget to give the impressive cocktail menu a try too. (Large drinks come with your own collectable glass to bring home!)
Playing for change at Hard Rock Cafe
Hard Rock is great for music fans with plenty of events throughout the year at all of Hard Rock’s locations. Its most recent event, Undiscovered, in partnership with Playing for Change Foundation, sees 50 local bands playing 50 days of music around the world.
