The spookiest time of the year is upon us and if you like nothing better than being scared out of your wits, October is the month for you.
With Halloween rearing its haunted head for another year, Nottingham prepares to entertain and delight those of us who like nothing else than to be scared out of our wits.
Unifresher therefore, has put together a list of exciting and thrilling activities for us to enjoy in Nottingham and the East Midlands to truly be one with our spooky side.
Screamfest Resurrected as it returns after a brief intermission due to the Covid 19 pandemic is not for the faint hearted. This 13-day attraction hosted at the National Forest Adventure Farm in Burton-On-Trent, an hour’s drive from Nottingham, is perfect for those looking to satisfy their scare fix. Five scary attractions in addition to live entertainment make for a horribly good night out and many of the attractions are truly frightening. Tickets are available on their website at with many recommending the Creed Farm attraction.
Tickets start from £22.
However, if you were looking for something more local, the Pirates Play Centre down Rowley Drive is offering a unique experience of the adult nature. According to their website, the centre opens its doors for an adult only night of petrifying play time. Their clan of scary clowns take over the three storey soft play structure beckoning you in for a night terror. Tickets are available here to pre book but also available at the door. Do not pass up the chance to party with your pals and scream with laughter while being entertained in a truly unique experience.
Tickets from £13 when you pre-book, £15 at the door
However, if you enjoy a less spooky experience and are more invested in culture and history, head over to the Nottingham Castle this Halloween weekend for a variety of fun activities.
At the castle this weekend there will be a variety of amazing and interactive experiences in the School of Wizardry. Become a Witch or a Wizard and learn the mysterious dark arts of divination, herbology, astrology, distillation, druidry and much more. If you’re familiar and are a fan of the wizarding world of Harry Potter, you will find this an extremely enjoyable experience.
But that’s not all! On the 31st of October if you visit the castle, you will have the chance to see the official Ghostbusters car, The Ecto-1, as it makes a rare appearance between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Nottingham Castle for Halloween.
Tickets for these attractions are included with general admission ticket priced at £9 for students.
However, there will be a free Halloween Trail through Nottingham City Center and there will be no charge to enter the Castle Grounds to see Ecto-1
Pub nights and nights out
Additionally, you can enjoy a host of fun nights out with your mates at several venues around Nottingham. Numerous pubs and clubs are hosting special one off events to celebrate this spooky season from cocktail nights to Halloween parties.
Be At One Bar in Nottingham is hosting themed cocktail nights to a happy hour that you can’t resist. Perfect for pre drinks or a night of boozy cocktails, Be At One’s Happy hour and Halloween themed cocktail specials are the ideal way to spend this chilling weekend.
Tickets bookable here
Another great pub to celebrate this spooky season is the American Dive Bar inspired club down Thurland Street in the heart of town. Club Mojo offers great drinks and cocktails at affordable prices, perfect for pre drinks, a night out or in my personal opinion it’s one of the more ideal spots in town to end your night. The club is well known for its extensive American inspired 80’s and 90’s rock music with a few bangers from the modern day to mix things up. However, with dancing on tables encouraged, it will definitely foster a night to remember.
Tickets bookable here or pay on entry.
Finally, we have to mention a unique ethereal experience hosted at the Lakeside Arts facility at the University of Nottingham. Eulogy as described on their website is a surreal, otherworldly journey that exists entirely in your mind. “How you arrived is a mystery and why you’re there remains unclear.” The whole experience lasts around 30 minutes and immerses the audience into a dreamlike, labyrinthine hotel imagined in the darkness. It is described to be an exhilarating and intense journey exploring the human consciousness and its experiences. The experience will run till the 31st of October, with seven shows throughout the day. Tickets are bookable here but make sure you arrive five minutes before the specified time.
Tickets priced at £12.50 for adults and £8 for students
These are just a few of the many attractions and experiences available to us this Halloween season in Nottingham. All the best and as always stay safe on your spooky adventures.
