In 1909 a lawyer from Edinburgh, Thomas Gillespie, founded the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) that was signed as a charity to promote consciousness and conservation of rare and endangered animals for over 100 years. “In its original charter, granted in 1913, RZSS had the principal objective ‘To promote, facilitate and encourage the study of zoology and kindred subjects and to foster and develop amongst the people with an interest in and knowledge of animal life.” RZSS also has Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park. Besides koalas, customers can see a giant panda exhibition, penguins rock, budongo trial, brilliant birds, living links, wallaby outback, wee beasties and Edinburgh Zoo gardens.
