Khloe Kardashian sues after unedited photo hits the internet

We all know that photos on social media aren’t always what they seem, especially when it comes to celebs and photoshop. These edited photos result in two things, people feeling body-conscious and low self-esteem, or hilarious photoshop fails. Such as when photos from a Vanity Fair photoshoot showed Opera to have three hands.

However, the latest social media controversy about editing photos involved unedited photos. You have probably heard by now that Khloe Kardashian and her media team are trying to have an unedited photo of her removed from the internet. Here is everything you need to know about the situation, including who is Khloe Kardashian, what the photo is and why she wants it removed.

Khloe Kardashian is one of Kim Kardashians and Kylie Jenners sisters, who has had her fair share of time in the spotlight over the years. She is also the daughter of Kris Jenner and famous attorney Robert Kardashian and the ex-wife of Lamar Odom.

The TV personality has been on the reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians since it launched in 2007. She also featured in various spin-off shows, such as Khloe & Lamar, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Kourtney and Khloe take Miami, Dash Dolls, and Kourtney and Khloe take the Hamptons. But aside from her family tv shows, Khloe has also hosted her own shows, Kocktails with Khloe and Revenge Body, where she showed off her impressive transformation over the years.

What is the photo?

The photo that Khloe is trying to have removed is an unedited snap of her in a bikini smiling by a poolside in Palm Springs during a family gathering without wearing makeup. The photo was uploaded by Khloe’s assistant by mistake, and whilst it was quickly taken down, screenshots have gone viral across social media. The photo isn’t particularly unflattering, but it is not edited or as edited as Khloe’s other photos.

Why is this controversial?

The photo itself isn’t controversial, it is Khloe’s and her media teams actions. Many Twitter accounts that retweeted the photo have been suspended and were told to remove the photo or face legal threats, as Khloe and her team are trying to get the photo removed from the internet.

People are questioning if she has a right to demand a photo of herself be removed, as in the past Khloe has received a lot of backlash in the past for uploading editing photos, especially as being a reality TV star means her fans can see what she looks like taking the photo, compared to the photo itself.

Khloe says she wants the photo removed because it was unauthorised and not because it is unedited or shows her without makeup.

Many fans did not realise the photo was not supposed to be published and were praising Khloe for posting an unedited photo of herself. Whilst other fans were angry after seeing the photo, realising how edited Khloe’s other photos were, or angry that they thought Khloe felt the photo was not good enough for social media and wanted it removed.

What has Khloe said about the photo?

On April 8th, a few days after the unedited photo was published, Khloe published this series of messages to Twitter to explain her actions. She explained how being dubbed as the fat or ugly Kardashian sister is one of the reasons she has struggled with her body image, and how when she lost weight and became fitter, people automatically thought it was surgery and not hard work. Khloe also explains that as a reality star, she has had every flaw and imperfection zoomed in on by the public, who feel free to criticise her despite not knowing her.

Towards the end of her message, she wrote: “My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I want to share is my choice. It’s not for anyone to decide or judge what is acceptable or not anymore.”

Khloe also took to Instagram to show fans her ‘real body’ so that she could assure fans she does have the body she is showing them in photos; even though she sometimes does edit and stage them, they are still her.

What have other celebrities said?

Feminist, actor, and writer Jameela Jamil was one of many celebrities to share their thoughts about the current situation with Khloe’s unedited photo being released.

British Model, Jodie Kidd, shared her thoughts on the Khloe situation, and she told the Mail Online; “That’s always been an LA thing. Everyones got to look perfect, with the perfect teeth and the perfect hair. It’s been like that way before the Kardashians.”

She added: “For me as a model who travelled round the world in the nineties that was one thing that really put me off Los Angeles. If you’ve been brought up there, that’s the norm.”
