With December right around the corner, it is time to wrap up warm, grab some snacks and start your Christmas movie marathon. Netflix has a whole host of fantastic original films to help get you into the festive spirit and begin preparing for the holidays. We have made a list of 10 of our favourites, so you can get started right away and settle in for the night!

1. The Christmas Chronicles

The Christmas Chronicles follows two siblings who decide to trap Santa on Christmas Eve. When this does not go to plan, the children join the charmingly sarcastic Father Christmas and his loyal elves, to help save the day. With Kurt Russell playing the leading character of Santa, this film is a gift for anyone. The movie is enjoyable for both children and adults, and therefore perfect for family viewing. A good script, great acting, and excellent cinematic quality make this film one that you will be watching again and again over the Christmas season!

2. The Princess Switch

The Princess Switch follows the lives of two near-identical girls: a baker from Chicago and the prince’s fiancée. One week before Christmas, they decide to switch lives for 2 days, and the film follows the ensuing chaos. This is the perfect movie to watch if you fancy sitting down, relaxing and having a cosy night in. Vanessa Hudgens is a perfect fit for the main role in this fun and upbeat film. The Princess Switch was so popular that there is even a sequel!

3. Holidate

Holidate is a recent addition to Netflix’s original films and one that we absolutely love! The film follows two strangers who are both fed up with being single over the holidays and agree to be each other’s platonic plus-ones, to avoid judgement from their family members. But of course, things end more complicated when real feelings get involved… This a fun, light-hearted rom-com, featuring a charismatic cast of Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey. Although sometimes a little cringe-worthy, the movie features some hilarious moments and is easily rewatchable.

4. Operation Christmas Drop

The film follows congressional aid, Erica, as she travels to an Air Force base to assess whether it should stay open. Erica clashes with Captain Andrew Jantz, with her budget cuts and number crunching. However, in the end, he helps her get into the holiday spirit by finding some Christmas cheer. This is a light-hearted and charming film, and although at times it may be predictable, it is the perfect choice to watch whilst snuggled up in bed.

5. Jingle Jangle

In this musical holiday film, an imaginary world comes to life, after toymaker Jeronicus Jangle is betrayed by his apprentice. When his adventurous granddaughter turns up, a magical invention begins to reignite the magic of the shop. This film is a wonderful addition to Netflix’s holiday movies and is one to watch again and again. With original music and fun dancing, the movie is incredibly upbeat, and the cast is unbelievably talented. This an absolute treasure and will be a family favourite!

6. Klaus

Set in the cold town of Smeerensburg, mail carrier Jesper and mysterious carpenter Klaus strike up an unlikely bond. Their friendship sets off a chain of kindness, which begins to melt a years-long feud and create new holiday traditions. This animated film is truly heart-warming and a unique take on the Christmas story. It is a Christmas movie with personality and charm, and is completely refreshing, although perhaps a little nonsensical. One of the best Christmas animations released for a while!

7. Let It Snow

On Christmas Eve in a small southwestern town, several high school students are brought together by the sudden arrival of a snowstorm. Soon, friendships and love lives begin to collide, and by Christmas morning, everything has changed… Overall, this is an interesting and engaging holiday romance, perfect for young adults. Despite the film’s cheesy moments, it is a cute and cheerful movie that will put a smile on everyone’s face.

8. A Christmas Prince

A Christmas Prince focuses on a young journalist who goes undercover as a tutor, to get a scoop on the royal family of Aldovia. Along the way, she gets entangled in some royal intrigue, by discovering a massive secret and even ends up falling in love with the Prince.

This film, although at times a little ridiculous and cheesy, is a hopeful and warming watch. It would be the perfect choice for a cosy evening spent next to a roaring, warm fire.

9. The Knight Before Christmas

A medieval English knight magically time travels to present-day America, where he meets teacher Brooke. Together, they attempt to find a way for the knight to return home. However, along the way, they begin to fall in love… This is a charming, easy watch with many smile-inducing moments. It is the perfect Christmas film for those who love a cheesy romance, coupled with a little bit of fantasy.

10. Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square

The film centres around a Scrooge-like, Christmas-hating woman who plans to sell her small town, with absolutely no regard for the people who live there. She attempts to evict the townsfolk on Christmas Eve; however, a Christmas miracle might just save the day. This is a lovely, sweet film, with several moments that just seem truly magical. Although Dolly is the star of the movie, there is also a great cast, some fantastically choreographed dancing and wonderful music. This is an extremely cheerful watch, which would be perfect to pop on for those cold, wintery days!
