Anyone who’s a student in either of the Bristol universities knows how lucky they are to be living the best years of their lives in Britain’s coolest city.

Boasting one of the best nightlife scenes in the UK, along with constant opportunities to see amazing bands, artists, performers and comedians, Bristol has a whole lot to offer every student.

Outside of its entertainment scene, though, it can be a bit overwhelming to decide how to spend a big day out in the city.

To help you decide on some of the best things to see and do in the best city, we’ve made a list of the best things to do in Bristol, according to TripAdvisor.

How much: £11 with student ID

Brunel’s enormous vessel sits proudly in Bristol’s Great Western Dockyard. The SS Great Britain was the longest passenger ship in the world between 1845 and 1854, and it’s easy to be bowled over by its sheer scale as you enter and explore the decks and below-decks areas of the vessel.

Clifton Suspension Bridge

Where: Bridge Rd, Bristol, BS8 3PA
How much: Free

Brunel’s breathtaking structure is probably the best-known attraction in Bristol and the most iconic sight in its skyline. Built in 1836, the suspension bridge is 702 feet-long and 250 feet-high, spanning the Avon Gorge near Clifton, the site of many student halls. The bridge is an absolute must-visit for everyone who goes to Bristol or UWE, and it’s a lovely spot to walk to (and over) when you’re in need of a good think or to clear your head. It gets bonus points for being gorgeous at night too.

Cabot Tower

Where: Brandon Hill Park, Great George St, Harbourside, Bristol, BS1 5RR
How much: Free

Cabot Tower, err, towers out of the middle of the equally visit-worthy Brandon Hill Park just off Bristol’s Park Street. The park itself is a great spot to hang out in and take in Bristol’s gorgeous sights and sounds. And a quick (or slow, if you’re scared of heights) walk up the tower is a great way to cap it off. The resulting panoramic view you’re rewarded with at the top is legitimately breathtaking, too.

St Mary Redcliffe Church

This beautiful church has been a mainstay of the Redcliffe area since Bristol first become a port centuries ago, and is now a Grade I listed building with some amazing Gothic architecture. You can pop along to the church every day for either religious purposes or just to check out its awe-inspiring interior.

How much: Free, exhibitions vary

Formerly known as At-Bristol, this colourful science centre features a massive range of exhibitions, shows, experiences and things to see and do to help you learn more about the world. They aim to nurture a ‘culture of curiosity’, and with the number of compelling and seriously fun exhibits housed in the building, it’s a pretty safe bet they’re succeeding in doing just that.

Bristol Cathedral

This sprawling cathedral is centrally located on Bristol’s beautiful College Green, at the bottom of Park Street. On one of the many occasions you’ll be lazing around on the green instead of doing work, you should make sure to pay the cathedral a visit. Bristol City Docks
