Backyard cinema offers you a chance to escape into another world. It goes beyond the traditional cinematic experience, immersing film-lovers into a magical realm, from Mars to Miami Beach! A quick rant about the state of cinema …

Cinema as we know it is in need of renovation. As a film buff I love the cinema in spite of the janky, uncomfortable seats you’re more than likely to find at your local theatre. If not that then the painfully broad armrests, separating you from your companion or the ‘regular-sized’ mixed popcorn that “honestly wasn’t too expensive” (I will never financially recover from this).

Factors such as these can oftentimes take away from your overall enjoyment at the cinema. It’s easy to see why a bunch of people prefer to watch most of their movies in the comfort of their own home. This didn’t really apply to me though. Despite my complaints, watching films at home has never lived up to the excitement I got compared to the big screen. It just didn’t have the same effect.

What’s so special about Backyard Cinema London?

A high level of customer satisfaction is ensured by meticulously controlling all of the variables so all that’s left to do is enjoy the movie. The chairs were ridiculously comfy, blankets would’ve been nice but then I honestly might have fallen asleep. The whole space was beautiful and polished and the decorations made me feel like I was at Winter Wonderland. With such an aesthetically pleasing environment, you’re going to want to post a snippet of it on your social media because people are going to want to know where you are.

The downside…

Backyard Cinema mostly screens classic movies. So yes, this means you’re not going to find Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever here. But ultimately, this point is minuscule in comparison to everything else Backyard cinema is offering.

Backyard cinema also run very popular live performances ranging from a live band, drag shows and even poetry by award winning star George the Poet. I wasn’t lucky enough to witness any of these but I guess that’s what I get for going on a random Friday evening.

My disappointment didn’t last for long though as I found the Big Top Circus Bar. It’s a cosy and colourful tent full of inviting furniture and friendly bar staff. Naturally I ordered a few cocktails.

The food

Afterwards I found street food onsite, I ordered a vegan buffalo burger with some loaded fries. I was really excited to have such a meal in a cinema. I was even more so when I realised that I could bring it into the screening with me. We also ordered a pizza – the Green Lantern, a pizza with mozzarella, aubergine, green pepper, tomato and spinach. I had honestly never imagined I’d be in the cinema with a good selection of quality vegetarian food. It was a welcome change compared to regular cinemas and I really appreciated being able to eat filling food while watching the movie.

Little things like this made my time at the venue infinitely more enjoyable and speak to the deluxe service you’re receiving. Going to the movies can be a genuine event again. You’re encouraged to spend more time than you usually would – to make a day of it.

Backyard cinema was literally founded in someone’s backyard. This homegrown quality has been reflected through the cinema’s creative flare and warm service which impressed me from the start. They’ve only gone from strength to strength and established themselves as the UK’s largest themed cinema. They pride themselves on giving you a deluxe cinema experience and that, they do.
