Sheffield is a city that’s home to 60,000 students and there are a lot of events that take place throughout the year to keep you busy. Whether it’s arts, sport or music, there is plenty going on this January. Here are some fun things to do this month that won’t break your bank account.

If you’re a student in Sheffield, you’ll be no stranger to the city’s longest-running live music venue and nightclub – The Leadmill. This January the club is hosting numerous themed club nights. Sheffield Vegan Market

On Sheffield Vegan Market runs for four Sundays a year and it’s worth making a note of in your diary to attend. Stalls sell a selection of street food, drinks, jewellery, handmade soap and much more. Whether you’re a long-time vegan, a new year’s resolution vegan or even not vegan at all, this is a great way to support small businesses and is worth checking out.

Go and see a football match

Sheffield is home to two football teams – Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough Stadium and Sheffield United at Bramhall Lane. Sheffield United are playing against Luton Town on 22nd January at home and you can buy a ticket here. Even if you’re not a football fan, this could be an opportunity to expand your interests in 2022 – you could also turn it into a fun day out with friends.

Go to the Theatre

Home to the largest theatre complex outside of London, Sheffield is a city with culture and art at its heart. This January there is a multitude of plays you can watch, varying in price depending on which theatre you choose to go to. David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny will be on at the Lyceum Theatre from Wednesday 19th  – Saturday 22nd January. If you’re more into ballet the Russian State Ballet of Siberia will be performing Swan Lake and The Nutcracker from the 10th– 15th January. If you fancy a classy night out with friends or even a date night, this is something different that students often overlook.

Bongos Bingo

Bongos Bingo, the bingo club night with a twist has returned for 2022. With many dates throughout the month, this is the perfect night out with friends. From cheesy singalongs to dance off’s, this will be a night to remember. Their wacky prizes span from a mobility scooter to £1000 in cash, so who knows what you will end up going home with. Sing karaoke

There are lots of great places to go in Sheffield for a fun night singing Karaoke. It’s a different night to clubs and bars and guarantees to make people laugh, even if you’re a bad singer. There are lots of top group things to do for students in Sheffield, but one of the best is to play escape rooms. It’s a fun activity when you’re not sure what to do and there are quite a few different ones in the city to play on different dates.
