If wine tasting is one of your favourite pastimes, then Nottingham is a great city for it. Whether you’re a fan of intimate bars or larger classes, there is something for everyone. Here are six of our recommendations for some of the best wine tasting in Nottingham and the surrounding areas

Another? Wine bar offers an innovative alternative to your traditional wine tasting. When you visit the bar, which is located in Trinity Square, you can help yourself to either a 25 ml sample, a 125 ml small glass or 175 ml large glass of over 30 different wines, sparkling wines and champagnes. That’s right, Another? Wine bar is self-serve, with customers given a personalised tab card on arrival, which can then be used to activate the wine dispensing machines.

Private hire of the bar is also available on Monday and Tuesdays, so if you’re planning a private wine tasting, you might want to consider this one!

2. The Wine Room

A short bus or taxi ride away from Nottingham city centre, The Wine Room in Mapperley is a fantastic place for a spot of wine tasting. The Wine Room regularly holds wine tasting events throughout the year, including special seasonal wine tasting, with tickets usually being priced at around £30.

If you’re after some food to soak up the alcohol, you’re in luck! The Wine Room is also a café and restaurant and has a wide variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner options to fulfil your hunger. You can also book an afternoon tea here from £15.95 per person, with the opportunity to add a glass of fizz or two if you feel like it.

3. Brigitte Bordeaux

Head over to Sherwood for an intimate wine tasting experience at Brigitte Bordeaux. This bar has a seasonal wine menu and a delicious food menu to go along with it. Brigitte Bordeaux holds regular wine tasting experiences throughout the year for a very reasonable price of £25 per head (including food); past events have included a female winemakers tasting, wines of Chile tasting and Swiss and German wine tasting.

Although events might be few and far between at the moment due to the coronavirus, if you would like to try some wine tasting once things go back to normal, please phone, message or drop into the shop to book.

4. Weavers of Nottingham

In the heart of Nottingham’s city centre, Weavers of Nottingham is an independent wine & spirit merchants established back in 1844. Along with offering free delivery of a wide selection of beverages to your home or workplace, Weavers also offers tasting experiences for those who would like to learn more about wine and would like to try something new. Their next event, Best of the Classics, will be held on Thursday 24 September (COVID permitting); tickets are priced at £25.02 per person and can be purchased from their website. If you like what you see over at Weavers of Nottingham, there is also the opportunity to join their Wine Club, where you can have a case of personally selected wines sent straight to your door every other month.

5. Notts Derby Wine School

The guys over at Notts Derby Wine School really are the experts in wine tasting. Notts Derby Wine School hold public and private events across the country, intending to provide wine tasting for everyone. Unlike some of the other companies on this list, they do not sell wine, but they could definitely point you in the best direction of where to buy it. Notts Derby Wine school offer a variety of courses and experiences of different lengths throughout the year; at the moment, they are holding free OnLine wine and cheese tastings on Friday nights through Facebook Live. If you’re tempted to give it a go (we definitely are), head over to their website to see a list of the wines and cheeses that will be tried virtually in the coming weeks and where to buy them.

6. Hanwell Wine Estate

Hanwell Wine Estate is a little bit further afield than some of the other wine tasting experiences in Nottingham, but it’s certainly worth the travel. Nestled in the South Nottinghamshire countryside, Hanwell Wine Estate has a beautiful vineyard and grounds, meaning you can enjoy your wine with the added bonus of a stunning view. Their Vineyard Experience comes with a complimentary welcome drink and a vineyard walk and tour of the grounds, followed by a tutored wine tasting with six local wines. Tickets are just £17.50 and can be purchased online.
