You’ll know if you’ve ever been to Swansea that there are no shortages of places to drink especially around Swansea Bay but as a fresher, you may not know the best-hidden gems in the city. Look a little closer at the venues which aren’t so obvious at first sight. Let us know if you try it out and tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

1. Flickering Light

Flickering Light Swansea

Address: Wind Street, Swansea

Flickering Light is full of quirky decorations, with a menu full of beers, cocktails and wines. They serve drinks from a 1950s truck which has been converted into a bar. Swansea students love this unique and different venue, especially as it’s one of the few venues that entertain with jazz players! Take your best friends for a sure night of fun!

2. Prohibition cocktail bar

Prohibition cocktail bar Swansea

Address: Green Dragon Lane, Swansea

Prohibition is Swansea’s worst-kept secret. Wind Street to the eye may seem like it doesn’t have much to offer with its tacky, generic clubs but if that’s your thought then you most certainly haven’t experienced Prohibition and you’re truly missing out!

This little gem is tucked away down the narrow alley of Green Dragon Lane, the bar is hidden amongst the walls with most people walking past and missing it completely. There are no signs and no doors, the only indication you’ll get of the bar is a security guard standing against the wall. If you meet the criteria (make sure to dress nicely and be super friendly) then the security guard will step aside where you will be faced with an ancient bookcase, one little push and you’ll be transported to Prohibition!

The atmosphere and decor are of a 1930s luxury and sophistication, with miss-matched furniture and draped black curtains, you’ll feel like anything can happen here! The cocktails are unreal with some of the staff being masters in mixology it’s easy to see why! Take a plunge into the 1930s and let us know how you get on in the comments.

3. The Perch

The Perch Swansea

Address: Wind Street, Swansea

Another place on Wind Street which you wouldn’t expect to be there. This place serves the best tapas, infused cocktails and craft beers. It is already a firm favourite with students who love the cocktails and the classy feel and atmosphere. Check it out and let us know what you think!

4. Bar Americanos

Bar Americanos Swansea

Address: SA1

This is a perfect place for a few drinks and great conversation! They play live jazz and frequently have live music to add to the relaxed, chilled vibes. If you’re feeling peckish they serve some delicious paella, tapas and platters which will tickle any foodie’s taste buds.

5. SIX Bar

SIX Bar Swansea

Address: 6 Princess Way Swansea

A new arrival to the Swansea scene, many consider No.6 as filling a gap in Swansea nightlife. It serves hot coffee in the day and cool handcrafted cocktails by night. It is located in a prime position near the city’s new Boulevard project. Inside you’ll find exposed brick walls with colourful concentric and plaid patterned couches for a sure cosy evening. There’s a crackling fireplace in the winter to keep with the chilled, cosy vibes.

The cocktail list is wide-ranging full of signature tipples, we recommend the St.Tropez Sour, a blend of vodka, raspberry and rhubarb liqueur, egg white, lemon juice, and a dollop of raspberry jam. This is just one of their many dreamy cocktails. Give it a try and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
