Best brunch in Birmingham

It’s a staple of living it up as a student. It’s something to do in the middle of the day when your lectures don’t start until 3pm or a great way to spend a Saturday with friends. Birthday celebrations, graduations or just a day out in town, brunch is a good idea anytime and for any occasion! So if you’re ready to feast on eggs, avocado-toast, coffee and much more (and even Prosecco if you go bottomless), check out the best brunch in Birmingham.

1. Bills

Bill’s comes to most peoples’ minds when they say ‘brunch in Birmingham’. With a large branch in the Bullring, they serve a varied menu of everyone’s favourite brunch food – eggs benedict, Avocado on Sourdough, Bill’s infamous Big Brunch & Pancakes topped with fruit or bacon! As well as their delicious food, Bill’s offer a range of fresh juices, smoothies, or, if you’re celebrating on weekend’s bottomless mimosas, cocktails or Prosecco.

As a chain restaurant, their menu can be a bit larger than some other places, and they are very careful about dietary requirements, so this is a great place for people with dietary needs. Reasonably priced and chilled, Bill’s is one of my favourite places for brunch!

2. York’s Cafe

York’s Cafe is your quintessential brunch place, with fashionably worn decor and menus printed on distressed paper. In this relaxed, stylish environment, you can enjoy a range of traditional brunch foods from their special brunch menu. But what I love about this place are their other options. They go beyond brunch staples of eggs, bacon, and avocados to Turkish eggs, Marrakech avocado toast and Arabian buttered eggs. Right next to New St station, it’s perfect for a day out in town or just for a quick lunch!

3. The Button Factory

Are there any better two words than ‘bottomless brunch’? Well, if you love bottomless brunch, The Button Factory is for you. Their brunch menu includes a ‘three courses and bottomless bellinis for £39’ option, with a varied menu with vegan and veggie options. It’s not the cheapest on our list, so best save this one for a celebration – perfect for birthdays, graduations or even to celebrate the end of term. They also have a beautiful bar and beer gardens to sit out and enjoy the sun. It’s a great place for a whole day out with friends or just a couple of hours in the historic Jewellery Quarter.

4. Urban Cafe

If bottomless brunch is your thing but you want something a bit less pricey, then Urban Cafe is for you. Although their menu is not quite as extensive as The Button Factory, they still offer delicious bottomless brunch for £26 a head, with a choice of Bloody Marys or Buck’s Fizz, or up to £36 for additional bottomless pastries, toast and coffee. In a trendy and relaxed environment, Urban Cafe is the ideal Birmingham brunch spot for a big get-together. They are also committed to reducing their environmental impact, with a website section dedicated to their initiatives. All in all, a must for any brunch-lover!

5. Cherry Red’s

If you’re looking for something simple and traditional with a fun twist, this is absolutely the place for you. My favourite thing about Cherry Red’s is that they serve, among other things, a build-your-own-breakfast where you can have precisely the breakfast you want, including fresh toast, sausages, bacon, eggs, hash browns, even vanilla ice cream. Pancakes are by far the most popular item though and you can add whatever you like to them! Their menu caters for veggies, vegans and gluten-free folks, with a range of pancakes, breakfast staples and sandwiches. Located in central Birmingham, there is plenty to do around Cherry Red’s, making it great for a late breakfast during a busy day. Cherry Red’s are not only one of the best places for brunch in Birmingham, but they’re just a fun spot to hang out generally. They have events like live music and comedy, and they even have free private room hire if you want to organise something special.

6. Gas Street Social

I am very excited about this place. Gas Street Social is all about the social aspect of eating, so guests can sit at a variety of table types, including large shared tables (think Wagamama’s-style) and a social area where you can enjoy bottomless brunch. Their bottomless brunch comes in at £20 a head, when bought ‘in addition to any brunch item’. Their menu is varied and there is something for every taste – from classic breakfast foods like bacon and sausages to deli-style sandwiches and eggs served any number of ways. With two hours booking slots, Gas Street Social is great for a long lunch out with friends or as a break from a day out in the Mailbox.

7. Lewis’ Deli

If you’re looking for something a bit further out of the city centre, Lewis’ Deli is perfect for you. They have a small menu of classic brunch meals and all of their meat is locally sourced. If you like to brunch often, then Lewis’ is reasonably priced and offers a great range of coffees (including a turmeric latte!) and fresh juices. Although their menu is more compact than other places on our list, they serve delicious, timeless food made with love and expertise. This place is great for anyone looking for a quieter area to spend the day. Moseley has plenty of beautiful spaces to hang out in and if you’re looking to explore some new parts of Birmingham, then this is the place for you

8. Grand Central Kitchen

Located not in Grand Central as the name might suggest, but next to the Midland Metro tram stop on Stephenson Street, Grand Central Kitchen is perfectly located in the centre. The menu comprises a variety of Subway-style meals, ranging from baguettes, sandwiches, panini and ciabatta to hot wraps and jacket potatoes. Pizzas are also on offer for those seeking something a bit more adventurous. However, based on reviews, the standout item appears to be their fried breakfasts. The Full English is a must-try, particularly for its super cheesy omelette. As for drinks, Grand Central Kitchen serves a selection of soft drinks, juices, hot chocolates, and an array of coffees and teas.

9. Old Dresser Cafe

Ranked as one of the best restaurants in Birmingham, the Old Dresser Cafe is great for brunch, or dinner, or both! It’s a Polish cafe that serves up dishes like Polish potato pancakes, or Polish breakfast sandwiches. Or, if you’re super hungry, you can build your own breakfast where you can choose 5 items from a long list. The Old Dresser Cafe is a great brunch spot in Birmingham for veggies and vegans too. You can find full breakfasts catered to either diet, as well as other starters like mushroom stroganoff. It’s a small independent restaurant that has a cosy vibe. They claim that taste is the most important quality, rather than being overly-focused on things like aesthetics, so you know you’ll be getting great, delicious food here!

10. Boston Tea Party Birmingham

Situated in the vibrant heart of Birmingham, you’ll discover this charming brunch spot in the city. It’s in an old building and provides some of the best food around. Despite its international-sounding name, the menu is typically British and quite extensive. There’s a breakfast menu, breakfast muffins, a lighter breakfast menu, a brunch menu a salad menu, and a burgers and toasties menu.  It has veggie and vegan options, as well as great brunch options like shakshuka and quesadillas, and homemade American pancakes (ok these are less British).
