1. Speakeasy Bar

This bar is the definition of a hidden gem. Found in a basement, this city bar can only be accessed through a password that you give on the door, and it’s not too easy to find either. It’s orange leather seating, and warm lighting gives the whole place a very retro feel, as well as a variety of cocktails and drinks to make you feel like a true VIP. If you’re able to get in here, it’s definitely worth a visit.

2. The Compound

Located in the famous Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, The Compound is almost completely hidden amongst its surroundings. But if you’re able to find it, it’s a great choice for a private party. Underneath the buildings above you’ll find this speakeasy bar, alongside a small cinema screen. Not only that, but you may recognise this setting from Ed Sheeran’s “X”, as it was used to advertise the album. Unfortunately, this bar is not open to the public, but it is available to book for private functions. This is the perfect place for those who want a completely exclusive party!

3. The Gin Vault

This cosy canal-side bar is a great find, as it is so easy to just stumble across! As suggested by the name, this bar specialises in gin, serving more than 130 varieties for you to choose from. The entrance is a small door located on Broad Street, and is in the same building as “O bar”, so it’s definitely a hidden gem. This cellar bar also has live music playing every Friday, so you can listen to some great bands and performers whilst making your way through the menu!

4. The Jekyll and Hyde

This quirky and unique bar is quickly growing in popularity, so you’ll have to get in quick! Offering a great selection of eccentric cocktails and tipples, The Jekyll and Hyde is perfect for those looking for a relaxed night out or wanting to push the boat out with wacky drinks and decor. However, the best-kept secret of this venue is the Parlour upstairs. On Saturday nights, you can attend for “Dr Jekyll’s Potion”, an evening filled with Jazz music – as well as other types of music – from some of Birmingham’s best musicians. Located in the heart of Digbeth, The Night Owl is the prime location for those wanting a more retro night out. Specialising in music such as Northern Soul, Motown and Funk, this bar boasts an excellent collection of tribute acts that perform some of the hits that are bound to get you up dancing! They also offer a bottomless brunch for those looking for a nice place to eat during the day!

6. Arco Lounge

This Parisian-inspired bar is a charming spot for breakfast, lunch and nighttime drinks. With a selection of specially selected spirits, they are able to make a variety of drinks, ranging from classic cocktails to something a bit more exciting. As well as this, the bar is well known for having great comfort food such as burgers, tapas, and other tasty treats. However, there are rumours around the town that this Harbourne-based venue is owned by the mysterious street artist Banksy, so it’s well worth a visit to make a conclusion for yourself!
