unifreshers best for inclusion
Representation, respect and belonging matter. In 2025, students are demanding more from their universities, not just policies, but real action on race, gender, disability, LGBTQ+ inclusion and beyond.
This Unifresher Award recognises universities that are making inclusion part of everyday student life. From diversity in leadership and curriculum to the lived experience of underrepresented students, we looked at surveys, inclusion audits, community-led initiatives and more. It’s not about box-ticking, it’s about where students actually feel seen and supported.
If you want to thrive in a space that embraces every identity, this list shows who’s setting the bar.

meet the judging panel
Our methodology is reviewed and approved by a student-focused editorial panel with real insight into sustainability. For this category, we brought together a student studying environmental science, our editor, and our founder, along with a special guest judge: the co-founder of a food-waste startup, who holds a degree in economics and international development, and a master’s in sustainable food systems. This mix of lived experience and expert insight helps ensure our sustainability ranking is not only well-rounded, but genuinely meaningful.

Student Insight: What is inclusivity?
“Inclusion is about feeling safe, respected and truly seen for who you are, whether that’s through societies, support groups or just being welcomed on campus. From my own experience and seeing the work of so many students across the UK, it’s clear the most inclusive universities are those that really listen and act on what students say matters.”

Voices That Actually Get Heard
We asked students across the UK what makes them feel welcome, safe and included at university. Here's what came up again and again.
“I didn’t have to hide who I was. That made all the difference in how confident I felt at uni.”
“It’s not just about diversity stats, it’s about what happens when issues come up. My uni actually listened.”
“There were prayer rooms, gender-neutral toilets and active societies. I felt seen in every way.”
