As we slowly head towards spring, and more and more variants of covid keep emerging, plenty of people are looking to get their socialising fix somewhere airy and fresh – like an outdoor bar. So here are the 10 best outdoor bars in Brighton for you to enjoy.
10. Hobgoblin
Location: 31 York Pl, Brighton BN1 4GU
This bar has won awards for its beer garden, which holds more seating than the indoor bar does. With heating, fairy lights and cheap deals on student drinks, it should come as no surprise that Hobgoblin is one of the best outdoor bars in Brighton. Plus, as we approach the hotter months, they’ll break out their vodka slushie machine. What more could you want by the seaside? The bar itself is just at the end of London Road, so it is within walking distance of the student living areas in the city, as well as the clubs on the seafront.
9. The Fortune of War
Location: 156 Kings Rd, Brighton BN1 1NB
Right on the seafront, this tucked-away bar sits in The King’s Arches and has an outdoor terrace that lets patrons sit and watch the seagulls (avoid them at all costs!) and the sea. Enjoy their reasonably priced drinks and the music they often have playing from the inside. And, just like Hobs, this outdoor bar in Brighton is just a few minutes away from the clubs on the seafront like Shooshh if you decide to keep the night going.
8. Brighton Music Hall
Location: Kings Road Arches, 127, Brighton BN1 2FN
Brighton’s worst kept secret is its huge music hall on the seafront. Next to the rentable basketball courts, just along from Shelter Hall, this huge outdoor space is kept aside for picnic benches and tables owned by Brighton Music Hall. Check out their cocktails, Pimms, and shots whilst you enjoy live music out by the beach. They even have a small menu of food available, from cheesy chips to chicken katsu fries and gyozas.
7. The Hare and Hounds
Location: 75 London Rd, Brighton BN1 4JF
Just off of Preston Circus, on the end of London Road, this craft beer and Mexican food outdoor bar is definitely one to check out. They have a gorgeous pergola-style beer garden with greenery and comfortable benches available for you and your friends to chill out on. Pair that with a great menu of all things flavoursome – you’re set for a good night.
6. The Black Lion
Location: Black Lion, 14 Black Lion St, Brighton BN1 1ND
Over by The Laines, The Black Lion is a common favourite among hipsters and people who like feeling tucked away from everything. The bar is set in an old building on a row of other bars, and has a quaint little comfortable beer garden around the side. They have a small menu of burgers and sides, and an extensive range behind the bar. It’s really no shocker that they’ve made the top 10 outdoor bars in Brighton.
5. The Mesmerist
Location: 1-3 Prince Albert St, Brighton BN1 1HE
In the same vein as The Black Lion, The Mesmerist is near The Laines and has plenty of indoor seating, but also has a rooftop terrace that boasts extravagant parties and amazing seating for anyone looking for an outdoor bar in Brighton. They also sell a range of food and are well-known for their amazing roast dinners.
4. La Plage
Location: 171-181, Kings Road Arches, Brighton BN1 1NB
Heated. Beach. Terrace. Yes, you read that right. La Plage has a gorgeous, heated beach terrace for anyone looking for those extravagant Instagram pics without having to stroll far from their university halls. Based in the clubbing centre of the city, right on the seafront, La Plage has plenty of benefits and a gorgeous view.
3. Revolution
Location: 77 West St, Brighton BN1 2RA
Revs is not a secret, it is a lot of people’s favourite place for pre-drinks. The bar inside is great, with amazing cocktails, long happy-hours, photobooths, and amazing handcrafted vodka flavours – but outside, you get all of this, plus a shisha bar, fairy lights, and an even better ambience. It’s the perfect outdoor bar and is right near a J.D Wetherspoons, Pryzm, Pop World and Shooshh.
2. Park View
Location: 71 Preston Drove, Brighton BN1 6LD
This is one of the city’s hidden gems. It’s hidden away by Preston Park, and so not too many people know about the four-tiered beer garden that it has waiting for people to explore! There are also amazing options of craft beers, ales and spirits, and you can avoid the crowds!
1. Shelter Hall
Location: Kings Road Arches, Shelter Hall, Brighton BN1 1NB
What was once a derelict building is now a food court and beer garden. Shelter hall now has a range of food and drink stalls inside, as well as seating both in and out of the hall itself. There are even igloos available if you’re not quite ready to brave the winter winds yet, and the range of pleasantries on offer truly puts this place number one on our list of best outdoor bars in Brighton.
