An essential part of the British university experience are the last minute pub trips, and now that winter is on the way there’s no better time to spend a few hours getting a few pints after a long day. Hillhead Bookclub
The Hillhead Bookclub is a West End favourite. Known for its good food, drinks and taste in music. Located at 17 Vinicombe Street, only a short walk from the Hillhead subway station and open from 12pm till 12am on weekdays and 11am till 12am on weekends.
Waxy O’Connor’s
Back in the City Centre, Waxy O’Connor’s is your classic pub. With a large screen for sports and frequent live music, it’s a great place for a relaxing night. You’ll find it at 44 West George Street and it’s open till 11pm apart from Friday and Saturday nights when it’s open till 12am.
Malones
Malones Irish Bar is another great City Centre pick. A classic Irish Pub with live music and sports viewing. From Monday till Thursday the bar is open from 11am till 12am, and from Friday till Sunday it stays open 3am. The pub is at 57-59 Sauchiehall Lane.
The Ark
Boasting a large beer garden, pool table and split over two levels at the city centre venue, just a short walk from both Glasgow Caledonian University and The University of Strathclyde, The Ark is a great pub to try. It’s at 42-46 North Frederick Street and is open from 11am to 12am everyday.
Walkabout
Walkabout, at 128 Renfield Street, is an Australian bar showing all the biggest sporting events, and that also hosts themed party nights. It’s open from 12pm till 12am with extended opening hours on Friday and Saturday.
Slouch
Slouch is an award winning late night bar. They have a rock themed venue with a similarly themed cocktail menu. They are open till 3am every night and you can find it at 203-205 Bath Street.
Brewdog
With two locations in the city, one in the Merchant City at 99 Hutcheson Street and the Kelvingrove location at 1397 Argyle Street the Brewdog bars are the place to go for good food and good beer. The opening hours differ slightly at the two locations but both are open till 12am each night.
Hootenanny
If you are looking for a relaxed spot to grab a couple drinks and a good meal after a long day then Hootenanny is a good spot. It’s just down from the St Enoch Centre on 40 Howard Street and is open from 11am to 12am.
The Curler’s rest
Back in the West End Curlers Rest is a cosy old meets new pub, with an open fire. It’s located at 256-260 Byres Road and is open till 12am apart from Friday and Saturday nights when they stay open till 1am.
The Society Room
Finally, another classic British pub to round up the list. The Society Room is a part of the Weatherspoon’s group and has all the things you would expect. Plasma screens, wifi, good food and good drinks. You can find it 151 West George Street and it is open till 12am every night.
