The best vegetarian restaurants in Leicester boast a wide range of wonderful dishes which are meat-free and help save the planet. Check out some of our favourites.
World Peace Cafe
What: Salads, daily deli specials, wraps, ciabattas, jacket potatoes in a warm and welcoming environment. It’s been run solely by volunteers since it opened in 2010.
Where: 17 Guildhall Lane
Cost: Cheap — Specials of the day can be picked up for just over £5.50. Previous meals have included roast veg, dhal and brown rice plus Caribbean curry and brown rice.
Mithaas
What: A wide ranging menu full of veggie delights including South Indian meals, Indo-Chinese and curry dishes.
Where: 103-104 Narborough Road
Cost: Very affordable — the thali meal (two curries, dhaal, rice and three chappatis) can be bought for £5.99.
Sardaar
What: If you’re missing home this might be the place for you. The family-run business provides a welcoming atmosphere. The vast menu provides the best of Punjabi cooking with no frills or fuss – just good food.
Where: 30 Narborough Road
Cost: Inexpensive — A main meal costs less than a tenner.
Shivalli
What: Delicious food inspired by the cuisine of Shivalli, a place near Udupi in the state of Karnataka in Southern India. There’s more than 50 vegetarian dishes on offer including channa masala and majige hulli, so you know there will be something for everyone.
Where: 21 Welford Road
Cost: Well priced — vegetable kurma is £4.75
Just Veggie Pizza
What: Despite the name, Just Veggie Pizza does lots more than, er, just veggie pizzas.
You can get veggie burgers, pasta, fritters, wraps and kebabs — all for a very reasonable price. Plus you can get a delivery, perfect for a hangover.
Where: 1 Saxon Street
Cost: Cheap — You can grab a medium thin margerita for just £5.49.
