Just up from the beach, The Walrus is on Ship Street in the famous Lanes. It is a mix-match pub of delicately decorated rooms and twisting passageways that lead to a two-storey roof garden. As you go in, you’ll see the cosy ground floor with an open fire. The next floor has a bright and airy feel, and you can enjoy the varied menu with seasonal, classic and modern dishes. Not to mention there’s a music venue downstairs with live music, from duos to five-piece bands and cabaret shows.

Even from the outside, The Ivy is beautiful. The huge arched windows and the beautifully arranged archway of flowers around the entrance set you up for what’s inside. When indoors, you’re surrounded by exquisite artwork, gorgeous wallpaper, colourful chairs and great cuisine. You can even book the private dining room, surrounded by even more art, including the ceiling.

The Lion and Lobster has a mix of a snug pub vibe and a dark academia wonderland. They’ve got a roof terrace, 2 floors of seating and walls covered in bizarre, exquisite art. To top it off, there are candles everywhere, fairy lights decorating the whole building, and a range of great food (top tip: visit for their Sunday roasts – but book in advance!).

Dead Wax Social is a small bar/restaurant in the Lanes. It serves delicious pizzas, which you can enjoy surrounded by a huge collection of records. You can ask the staff to put any of these on, and they make for a really unique decor!

Originally a brothel for the Royal Pavillion, Miss Fitzherberts has a… bizarre decor. From glowing Jesus to traditional tattoo artwork on the exterior, it’s an odd place but definitely one that your Instagram followers will enjoy. Plus, they have 2 for £10 cocktails and a range of East Asian cuisine on offer.
Location: 16-17 Market St, Brighton BN1 1HH
The Breakfast Club is somewhere that you’re going to want to book. Its colourful decor and American diner vibes make it a favourite for locals and tourists alike. You can enjoy mimosas and cocktails with diner-style full English breakfasts or pancakes and waffles – plus, there are loads of veggie options.

Not only does etch. look great; MasterChef Professional winner Steven Edwards owns it. It has a contemporary atmosphere with an open kitchen, bar and dark blue walls covered in sleek modern art. It celebrates British, local produce and so has monthly changing menus.

Red Roaster is technically a cafe, but we couldn’t not include it on the Instagram list. You can sit outside, and people watch, or indoors with the marble interior and green plants, or in the sun-trap garden full to the brim with plants and good vibes.

The Alcampo Lounge is a large, warehouse-type building. Its open ceiling contrasts the art-deco academia vibes. The walls are plastered in art that is quite frankly bizarre, and the ceilings are adorned with varied lampshades and light fittings. Mix that with their great range of cocktails and food, and your Instagram story is begging you to visit this place.
