The summer days have promised lovely weather for days out. If you’re looking for a fairly cheap day, free outdoors space is definitely the way to go. For some inspiration, check out our list of the best parks in Bristol. Many of these also have play areas, so its perfect for friends or families!

Brandon Hill Park

The hill is definitely a chore to climb up, but its not worth being lazy! The park boasts some beautiful views, especially when the weather is right. It’s perfect for picnics, and there are toilets near Cabot’s tower. Be warned though – because of its hilly nature, its not very accessible, especially to pushchair and wheelchair users.

The Downs

The Downs consists of Clifton Downs and Durdham Downs. It is a massive stretch of land so there is always some space guaranteed. There are plenty of facilities, including a café, a BBQ area, toilets, a play area, football pitches and changing rooms! Because of its flat nature, and large size, there are often events on so keep an eye out! Its level ground also makes it suitable for sporting activities as well as picnics, so there’s always something to do.

Victoria Park

Victoria Park is perfect for long strolls and wildlife lovers! The large area boasts a measured route for those who want to enjoy the nature, or even work out by jogging or cycling! It also has a play area and a café and beautiful scenery. Not far from Temple Meads, its a must to visit.

Oldbury Court Estate

This spacious park is located in Fishponds, so its not too far for UWE students. With a nature trail, riverside paths, fishing spots and play areas its perfect for families as well as friends. There are also often events held by Snuff Mills Action group, so check out their website to stay updated!

University of Bristol Botanic Gardens

Source: Visit BristolThis is the only park not free on our list, however it has beautiful flower collections and glasshouses that are worth seeing! Furthermore, if you’re a University of Bristol student (or any student with a valid ID) or under eighteen its free. Adults otherwise pay £9, unless it’s DAISY day (donate as it suits you) which is usually Wednesdays. Carers of visitors also go free. Guided tours and a deli is available. If you love botany, you don’t want to miss this!

Blaise Castle and Play Area

This park features many attractions, including adventurous play areas (there’s some zip wires, the castle, and its hamlet. It is a beautiful and large area: something out of a fairytale.
