Sometimes going for a night of drinking just doesn’t sound appealing. Luckily, there are so many fun sober nights out in Sheffield to enjoy. From star gazing to late-night coffee, there are plenty of ways to have fun with your friends in the evening without the nasty hangovers.
Night-time trip to Meadowhall
The meadow hall shopping center shuts at about 10 pm so a late-night shopping session could be just the thing for a fun and sober night with your friends.
Cinema
Everyone loves Cinemas in Sheffield include The Film Unit in the Uni of Sheffield SU, Light Cinema in The Moor, and The ODEON cinema at Arundel Gate.
Mocktails
Who says going to a bar means that you have to drink? Rather than a tipsy cocktail night, make your drinks alcohol-free. Just as tasty without the alcohol!
Late-night coffees at Nam Song
This Vietnamese-inspired restaurant on Broomhill not only does some of the best food in Sheffield but also. Although you could have some lovely cocktails (or mocktails) here, this is the best place to go for a late-night coffee with your friend (decaf, if you want to be able to sleep that night, of course). If you want the full experience, ask for condensed milk in your coffee (or coconut condensed milk if you are vegan) for an authentic sweet and creamy coffee!
Bowling
Everyone loves bowling! Go with a group of friends for a wholesome but competitive night in a bowling alley. The best places to go bowling are Lane7 in The Moor and Hollywood Bowl at Valley Centertainment.
Stargazing on Bole Hill
One of the best sober nights out in Sheffield- take advantage of one of the best views in the city at night by going up to Bole Hill to look at the stars. Bring a flask of hot drink, some blankets and you have yourself a perfect night.
Open mic nights
Go and support local bands and music groups with their open mic nights! There are various places that hold open mic nights across Sheffield including The Green Room, The White Lion and The Red Deer.
An alcohol-free pub quiz
This may not sound like everyone’s cup of tea, but a pub quiz doesn’t require people to be drinking. Going along to a pub quiz is always fun and challenging your general knowledge. Some are traditional, like The Cobden View on a Tuesday night, but others have different themes like in the Hallamshire House. Some of these quizzes are popular, so always make sure to get there in time for a seat.
Late-night yoga or fitness class
If you’re looking for fun sober nights out, then going to a fitness class in the evenings can be fun and sometimes help you destress. As a student, you can check what times some of the fitness societies (such as yoga or boxing) run classes at your University that you can attend, or see what fitness classes your local gym has to offer.
Go to the Treehouse Board Game café
Fancy playing a board game? The Treehouse Board game café is open until about 10 pm or 11 pm every Tuesday through Sunday. Book yourself a timeslot on their website (https://www.treehousesheffield.com/) and can enjoy hours of fun playing their huge range of over 750 games. They even offer a half-price cover for students after 7 pm on Wednesdays!
