1. See live music
The North London borough has been a musical melting pot for American and homegrown artists. It’s no coincidence that orbiting Camden Town is a number of music venues most notably being KOKO, Barfly, The Jazz Café, Electric Ballroom and Ding Walls. Camden’s influence on the music scene dates back as early to the eighties. KOKO, formerly named The Camden Palace, took a chance on the legendary Madonna in her twenties and the likes of Grace Jones.
The Roundhouse still remains as an iconic music and arts venue for artists to perform. In previous decades, the venue had been known for showcasing iconic rock performances from The Rolling Stones, Ramones and Clash to, in recent years having a more diverse selection of artists on stage across all genres. The Roundhouse also offers a range of free classes for young people to sign up for if interested in music, performing arts and various opportunities for creatives.
Camden’s consistency in effortlessly breeding musical talent goes unnoticed. This is highlighted in former Camden resident and Grammy award-winning singer Dua Lipa’s documentary on the area’s contribution to music throughout history.
2. Eat amazing food
Camden offers a diverse range of food choices extending outside of the popular Camden Market. Specialising in Pan Asian cuisine, Mr JI offers an affordable yet delicious array of food consisting mostly of small and large sharing plates.
Another food recommendation aimed at Italian food lovers is a reformed food truck now restaurant Buon Appetit. The family-owned restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine and aims to transport you back to the streets of Naples with each bite. Dishes served include a variety of gnocchi pasta, lamb ragù, lobster Mac N’Cheese to sharing plates such as focaccia, bruschetta and arancini.
3. See a film at the cinema
Looking to catch the next release whilst in Camden? Lucky for you, there are two cinemas to choose from between ODEON and Curzon. ODEON is perfect for an affordable cinema choice as Camden’s branch offer ODEON saver tickets all seven days of the week meaning tickets at all times are between £5-£8 for those who have the MyODEON app. Tickets for those without the app cost between £8.50-£11.50. However, if you’re willing to spend a little more, then you can opt to watch the latest big blockbuster at Camden’s branch of the independent cinema chain Curzon. The borough of Camden is home to many historical landmarks linking to notable figures in British history.
