Cambridge is a very scenic city, in the heart there is a vibrant and bustling city full of culture and history, and if you were to go further out there is fresh countryside full of activities. Find various articles about the city like activities and brunch places, so you can read those if you want to explore Cambridge within. Now, let me show you the greener side of historical Cambridge, these are my top recommendations for the best walking routes in Cambridge.
Grantchester Via The Meadows
The route goes through the city upstream through The Meadows to the picturesque village of Grantchester. There are many monuments of interest on the walk. Famous links on this walk include Lord Byron, Rupert Brooke, Pink Floyd and many others. This walk ensures that you get the best of both city and country views of Cambridge. It is 4.7 Miles and would take around 1hr 45 mins. A perfect hike for the spring to work up a sweat along the River Cam, via the and back. It’s a classic walk that includes the picturesque Meadows, a perfect place to stop for a picnic. There are plenty of refreshment stops on the way, including the famous Orchard Tea Rooms to cool down after your enjoyable walk.
Christmas market
It’s Time! That is, Christmas time! if you didn’t get the reference. So, come down to the Christmas Market, which is open for a month and has many activities. Like a Christmas Tree Maze, a Ferris Wheel, Ice skating and craft-making classes in the teepee. Located in Paker’s piece, it’s in the heart of Cambridge and free to enter whenever you would like as it’s open till late every day. So enjoy the many stalls and food offered at the Cambridge Christmas Market.
The Beechwoods Distance
This walk is only 4km (2.5 miles) which would take an hour, there and back. This walk follows a trail along the Worts Causeway to The Beechwoods. The trail follows quiet countryside scenes along a Roman road and through an untouched protected forest, trees planted in the 1840s. Along this walk orchids are found under the beech trees and large flocks of bramblings can be seen taking advantage of the richness The Beechwoods provide. This trail was provided by Queen Edith’s Community Forum.
Madingley Rise
This trail is also 2.5 miles and would take an hour there and back provided by Nicole Keshav. It takes the walkers through the development of Eddington and guides you around Madingley Rise. This walk takes in the new, modern and green Eddington where you will learn about famous philosophers from the area and its dinosaur exhibition in the museum. Then to Madingley Rise between Huntingdon Road and Madingley Road, which is home to wildlife and beautiful trees to then finish back at Eddington.
Midsummer Common along River Cam
For a weekend hike, I recommend the Midsommer Comman walk, 6.2 km (3.8 Miles) and approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. I recommend this walk for the weekend as there are many things you can do during the walk. Key Museums can offer a break during this walk to enrich the mind and to enrich the body in the open spaces along this walk. There are also key buildings like Jesus Green, Midsummer Common and Christ’s Piece to enjoy the rich history of Cambridge from this walk.
