As soon as Halloween ended the steel city started shining with Christmas lights, but where are the best on show? Check out these Christmas light displays in Sheffield.

1. The Christmas Market

The Christmas Market has filled Fargate and the Peace Gardens with festive grottos promising mulled wine, gifts and delicious treats, each lined with warm lights which make the city centre feel like lapland. The Ferris Wheel is a great way to enjoy a view of all the lights around Sheffield. Meanwhile, the huge bauble, present and sparkling ‘Sheffield’ sign in the Peace Gardens offer a festive Instagram post you can’t miss.

Check out the Christmas lights switch on on November 21st, hosted by Jamie Campbell of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and accompanied by a firework display, this event isn’t to be missed.

2. Sheffield Children’s Hospital

Every year this hospital, based just next to Uni of’s SU, gets covered in snowflake lights sponsored by local businesses. It makes a welcome addition to any Uni of student’s walk home and is a great reminder that Christmas really is the season of good will.

3. Meadowhall

When it comes to Christmas shopping, there’s nowhere more convenient than Meadowhall. It’s accompanying lights might also help you forget the stress of ticking everyone off your list too. See the stunning star and snowflake displays cascading down from the roof, or maybe use it as a check point in case you loose your mates in the crowd.

Meadowhall is also holding a selfie competition with their Santa, snowman and angel props and lights located around the shopping centre. They will also have snow for the kids from the 4th-24th of December and a magic snowglobe for festive photo ops.

   4. Chatsworth House

The legendary Christmas Market will take place at Chatsworth House in the Peak District from the 6th to the 24th of November, promising lovely traditional stalls from local businesses.  5. Bakewell

The famous Peak District town will become extra quaint this December as the buildings don mini Christmas trees, making your weekend walk feel extra cosy before you treat yourself to a Sunday roast in one of the many pubs.

6. Castleton

Much like Bakewell, Castleton is a cute Peak District destination with lots of festive charm to offer. The streets are lined with colourful Christmas trees and if you’re lucky, you might even get snow as Castleton is highly elevated.

7. Sheffield Cathedral

On the 30th of November and the 5th of December, the cathedral is hosting a light show entitled ‘The Beginning’ narrating the nativity story. It will feature lights and music inspired by the stained glass windows of the historic cathedral.
