Josh O’Connor has gone from playing a lovesick sheep farmer in a low-budget Yorkshire drama to starring for Steven Spielberg, and now his name keeps coming up in the race to be the next James Bond. The Emmy-winning actor, best known to many as Prince Charles in The Crown, has had a huge couple of years, so it is no surprise people are asking: what is Josh O’Connor’s net worth, and how did he make his money?

Unifresher estimates Josh O’Connor’s net worth at around £7 million in 2026, within a likely range of £4 million to £10 million.

Here’s how we got there. For most of his twenties, O’Connor worked steadily rather than spectacularly: British TV parts, theatre and independent films such as God’s Own Country, which are career-making but rarely make anyone rich. The money really started with The Crown. Netflix has never published his fee for playing Prince Charles across 20 episodes in seasons three and four. For context, Claire Foy was widely reported to have earned around $40,000 an episode as the lead in the first two seasons. O’Connor joined as a supporting player in season three, so even at a similar rate, the show is likely to have earned him well under £1 million before tax.

His film fees have climbed sharply since then. Challengers (2024) put him alongside Zendaya in a studio film. He then took roles in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025) for Netflix and Spielberg’s Disclosure Day (2026), which opened at number one with a global debut of around $94 million. None of his fees have been made public, but an Emmy and Golden Globe winner with a leading role in a Spielberg blockbuster is now in a very different pay bracket from the actor who birthed lambs for God’s Own Country.

Fashion is the other big earner. O’Connor was Jonathan Anderson’s first menswear ambassador at Loewe in 2017 and fronted campaigns for the brand for years. He has also worked with Bulgari, and in January 2026 he followed Anderson to Dior as a brand ambassador. Luxury fashion houses don’t publish these deals, but long-running ambassador roles for top labels are among the most lucrative work an actor can get outside film.

On the other side of the ledger, he lived in a Victorian house in Shoreditch and moved back to Gloucestershire in 2023, where he bought a home near Stroud. The price has not been reported. UK earnings over £125,140 are taxed at 45%, and agents, managers and publicists usually take 10% to 20% between them. He also spends a lot of time on stage, including Golden Boy at the Almeida Theatre in 2026, and theatre pays far less than film. Putting all of that together, we think around £7 million is a fair estimate, and it could rise sharply if the Bond rumours turn out to be true.

Josh O’Connor’s career

Early TV roles and The Durrells

Like a lot of British actors, O’Connor started with small TV parts: Lewis, Doctor Who, Ripper Street, Father Brown and a role as James in Peaky Blinders. He was one of the Bullingdon-style posh boys in The Riot Club (2014), and from 2016 to 2019 he played Larry Durrell in ITV’s The Durrells.

His breakthrough in God’s Own Country

His big break came in 2017 with Francis Lee’s God’s Own Country, in which he played Johnny Saxby, a young Yorkshire sheep farmer. To prepare, he worked on a real farm and helped deliver more than 150 lambs. The film premiered at Sundance and won him the British Independent Film Award for Best Actor, and he picked up a second BIFA for Only You in 2018.

Prince Charles in The Crown

O’Connor took over as Prince Charles in seasons three and four of The Crown (2019 to 2020), opposite Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin. He has said he wasn’t keen on the part at first. His performance in season four won him the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, as well as the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice awards for Best Actor in a TV drama.

Hollywood leading man

After The Crown, he played Mr Elton in Emma (2020) and Romeo in the National Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet film (2021), and appeared in Mothering Sunday and Lee. He moved into leading roles with Alice Rohrwacher’s La chimera (2023) and Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers (2024), playing a tennis player in a love triangle with Zendaya and Mike Faist.

2025 was his busiest year yet. He starred in Kelly Reichardt’s heist drama The Mastermind, opposite Paul Mescal in the First World War love story The History of Sound, and in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery alongside Daniel Craig. In December 2025 he hosted Saturday Night Live, and in summer 2026 he starred in Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day.

Is Josh O’Connor the next James Bond?

Correct as of 8 November 2026.

Nothing is confirmed yet. Deadline reported that O’Connor did a screen test for the role in October 2026. Press reports have named him alongside Callum Turner and Slow Horses star Jack Lowden as contenders, and there have been unconfirmed tabloid claims that the decision has already been made. Amazon MGM has not named its new 007. Producer Amy Pascal has said an announcement before the end of the year is a good bet.

O’Connor told the BBC in early November that being in the conversation was a “pinch me moment”, without confirming or denying anything. If he does land the role, it would be by far the biggest payday of his career, and our estimate would need a rethink.

One of his rivals is also on our radar: see where Jack Lowden sits in our Slow Horses cast net worth guide.

Josh O’Connor’s personal life

O’Connor moved back to the Cotswolds area in 2023 after living in London and spending a spell in New York, and he has talked about loving gardening, swimming, ceramics and embroidery. He set up the Waterlogged fundraiser for the mental health charity Mind, swimming 30 times around the UK and Ireland in his 30th year. He has been in a relationship with Irish actress Alison Oliver, star of Conversations with Friends, since at least 2025.
