About Unifresher - newspaper origins

Unifresher is the UK’s independent student guide – built by a team of editors and student writers who cover rankings, city guides, accommodation and practical advice with no university or provider funding. We reach over 2 million students a year and are referenced by universities including Cambridge, Sheffield and Sussex.

Our roots go back to 2012 when the team launched a student newspaper in Nottingham. Over the next five years, content was rolled out through monthly newspapers in 16 uni cities, producing over 250,000 copies each month. Then, in 2017, everything went online and in 2018, Unifresher.co.uk was born leading us to cover all the major uni cities and reach even more students across the UK. You can also find us on Instagram and Tiktok.

Chris Moss - Senior Partnership Manager

Chris Moss

Director
Chris studied Business Marketing Management at Nottingham Trent University, during which time he launched his first student focused media company. With over 12 years of experience helping brands connect with student audience, Chris has worked on some of the biggest and most successful youth campaigns ever created. When not in the office, Chris is attending conferences and staying at the forefront of what’s possible within the media landscape.
Phoenix Zhao - Unifresher Founder

Phoenix Zhao

Co-Founder
While studying in Nottingham, Phoenix found that there was limited resources available for students who were living in a new city. That's where the idea for Unifresher began; aiming to have one hub where students can access everything from practical advice to local city tips. When she's not growing the Unifresher brand, Phoenix loves tackling new fitness challenges and trying out new classes.
Aminah Barnes - Content Editor

Aminah Barnes

Head of Content
Aside from editing and writing, I love travelling, cooking, learning languages and anything psychology or true crime-related. I've been lucky enough to live abroad in Barcelona, Sicily and Rome for many years, but happily based in Manchester again where I grew up! Also (importantly) a Man United fan.
Connor Steele

Connor Steele

SEO and Affiliate Manager
Connor is a University of Sussex graduate with a BSc in Accounting and Finance, who now uses his analytical skills and creativity to create student-focused content. With over five years of experience in data analysis and content strategy, he’s played a key role in shaping engaging and insightful resources at Unifresher. Outside the office, you’ll find him staying active at the gym or out walking his miniature dachshunds.
Felicity Pease Head of Operations at Unifresher

Felicity Pease

Head of Operations
Felicity (usually known as Fizz) holds a first-class honours degree from The Open University and is now Head of Operations at Unifresher. With a life-long love of colour coding and spreadsheets, she's well suited to spanning any gaps between departments and generally keeping everything running smoothly. Fizz lives in Cambridgeshire with her family (and is trying, so far unsuccessfully, to persuade her husband on the merits of adding a dog!)
Adam Learoyd - Campaigns

Adam Learoyd

Head of Delivery
After graduating from the University of Birmingham, Adam began a career in digital marketing. Now, with over 10 years of experience under his belt, he leads all advertising campaigns for Unifresher’s partners. Utilising creativity, strategic insight, and industry-leading data, Adam manages more than 300 student-focused campaigns every year. Outside of work, Adam is a musician and music producer, using his creativity and knowledge of digital platforms to generate over 25 million streams of his songs to date.

Data and Lead Gen Exec
Adam graduated from Nottingham Trent with a degree in International Relations. He now uses his passion for data and AI to increase lead generation at Unifresher. When he's not working he enjoys traveling, riding old motorbikes and walking his dog Eddie on the beach.
