Six-bedroom flats with an open-plan kitchen and lounge make this a sociable, simple setup, and very few university residences here are this close to lectures at this price. There are 186 washbasin rooms and only 48 en-suites, so ask early if your own bathroom matters. Eligible students also get a weekly laundry coupon.

The lowest weekly rent on this page comes with a catch: the 60 standard rooms are charged for 49 weeks, so the £5,762.40 total is more than a 40-week washbasin room at Windsor Terrace. The 136 en-suites are the more interesting option at £173.60 on a 40-week undergraduate contract. Free parking, subject to availability, is rare here too.

Campus is about 14 minutes on foot. Windsor Terrace is cheaper and closer, so we would list that first.
Are first years guaranteed a room in Newcastle halls?
Yes, if you meet the conditions. For 2026/27, Newcastle University required a full-year application by noon on 24 July and an unconditional firm offer by 17 August. Northumbria guarantees new full-time first-year undergraduates a room on full-year, single bookings, and its FAQ says the guarantee ends in June. Neither promises a specific hall.
Are there catered halls in Newcastle?
Not among the halls we compared, and Northumbria says all of its residences are self-catered with fully equipped kitchens. It offers a meal credit called the Uni Food Saver, with up to 20% off on-campus food. Newcastle University's residences here are also self-catered, so budget for your own food shopping and cooking.
When should I apply for Newcastle halls?
Apply soon after making your firm choice. Northumbria's FAQ says 2027/28 bookings have just opened, although its apply page still marks some bookings as coming soon. Newcastle University's 2026/27 portal closed at noon on 24 July 2026 and the 2027/28 dates were not yet published when we checked in November 2026.
Which private halls are near Newcastle University?
Newgate Court, run by Unite, and The View, linked to Downing Students, are both booked through Newcastle University as managed partnerships. Newgate Court is a short walk from the Business School, and The View is just over 10 minutes from central campus. iQ Collingwood is a private option at 19 minutes' walk, with no term-time rent published.
Is Castle Leazes still open?
No. Newcastle University says the 1960s Castle Leazes halls are being replaced through a joint venture with Unite Students, with about 2,000 bedrooms due in time for 2028/29. As of its October 2026 update, the first building was nearing structural completion. Until then, you will need to apply to another residence listed by the university.
