Pottery painting is a relatively inexpensive and extremely wholesome activity, which is becoming more and more popular. For any students in Birmingham looking for a new hobby, or just a relaxing day out, here are a few pottery painting locations to check out.

A hidden treat in Selly Oak, Creative Coffee Hub is a charming and cosy cafe which offers a serene space for quiet painting. The cafe offers delicious treats alongside your painting, such as their selection of waffles (see my pic below). Choose from a number of adorable ceramics such as puppies and hedgehogs to decorate. Their ceramics range from £3-£15. If you’re short on time, you can take a painting kit home with you! Their painting sets provide you with a varnish kit, so that you can take home your new creation on the same day. I personally visited this cafe recently and had a fantastic experience creating my new hedgehog friend alongside their delicious waffles.

FAQs on pottery painting in Birmingham

Birmingham has dedicated studios and cafés that run pottery painting sessions with all materials provided. They’re great for birthdays, society socials and relaxing post-deadline activities that don’t break the bank.

Weekends and evenings are busy, so booking is best — especially for groups. Off-peak weekday slots are easier to snag if you’re organising something last minute with flatmates.

Prices vary by item and studio. Expect a session fee plus the cost of the piece you paint; some places offer student discounts, group packages or weekday deals to keep it affordable.

Studios generally glaze and fire items within a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on workload. You’ll be given a collection date at the end of your session, and some venues offer postage for a small fee.

Many do — think coffees, cakes and light bites to keep your creative energy up. Check for dietary options like dairy-free milks or vegan treats if you’re making a longer afternoon of it.
