Whether you’re looking for cosy winter activities, sparkling light trails, atmospheric concerts, or full-on festive fun, the city and its surrounding areas offer something for everyone. Here’s a guide to some of the very best ways to celebrate Christmas in and around the city.

I remember heading down to the Bristol Christmas market as a first-year and being mesmerised by the dazzling lights, tempting food, and the gorgeous gifts. With over 40 stalls selling crafts and seasonal delicacies, it’s difficult not to be amazed by the festive market. This year, you can book a Ski Gondola or a Hot Air Balloon for a more intimate and unique winter experience. Your Hot Air Balloon booking could also include cheese fondues, charcuterie boards, sourdough melts, and cheese boards.

The Bath Christmas Market is only a 15-minute train journey away from Bristol Temple Meads and is home to amazing stalls. Wander through the historic, gorgeous backdrop of Bath’s streets and enjoy the independent boutiques, mulled wine, and homemade gifts.

Set in a nightclub-com-bordello with tassels and showgirls, this Dickens reimagining features glitz, cabaret, and flamboyant showbiz. The musical comedy follows the greedy miser, Ebby Scrooge, who learns the true meaning of Christmas when spooky ghosts haunt him. So head down to the Wardrobe Theatre for belly-dancing and belly-laughing fun!

One of my favourite events are the film and orchestra collaborations, where a screening of a film is accompanied by a live performance of the music score. This year, the Bristol Beacon is hosting a Home Alone: Orchestra & Choir, where the classic film is joined by the nostalgic and charming music. The WNO Chorus and Orchestra will create a cosy and mesmerising atmosphere as you laugh along to the holiday favourite.

11. Christmas in the Caves
